This Man Deserved his Pulitzer Prize
Dave Barry is one of the foremost humorists of the 20th century (and 21st, although less active in this millennium). Not only is he hilarious, but he was consistently hilarious at the Miami Herald for decades--quite a fete. In DAVE BARRY IS NOT MAKING THIS UP we see some of his earlier writings. They're wickedly clever, but occasionally meander into what might loosely be described as "journalism," before Barry had fully decided to go 100% humorist. If you're a Dave Barry fan, read this. If you are a humor writer, read this for inspiration.

If you like Dave Barry . .
I like Dave Barry. This is one more in his collection of absurd metaphors. Most are very clever and I find them entertaining for days after I've read the book. However you may find repeating them to others who you think might find them hilarious also . . . Well let me put it this way, it may lose a bit in the translation.
I'm about to get another Dave Barry book to perk me up.

Didn't make us laugh
We used to laugh at Dave Barry, but this book didn't really get us going.

comedy at its best
I have read nearly all of Dave's books, and it never ceases to amaze me that he can be hilarious on each and every occasion. He doesn't duplicate any annecdotes, he simply uses his comic genius to make up new ones.. you will never be bored with Dave's ability to make you rush to the toilet to save wetting the floor, or laughing so hard you feel sick, and the back of your head hurts. This book is my favourite. Every story is funny, clever, and even sometimes sentimental. Please buy this one, you won't regret it. He's on top form.

Still a laaughing matter
I thought this rather old book would be, well, rather old. But I still find myself laughing at these pieces. I' m left handed, so I really liked the article about the miseries accorded the left handers. Dave Barry often feels the need to reassure book readers that he's not writing fiction as he explores odd news stories and his odd commection with them. This is a fun

I have to just stop and give in to laughter at times. My wife thinks I'm crazy. There is not enough genuinely amusing stuff being written these days.

Still as funny!
I first read this 15 years ago and it still makes me laugh out loud. The broad scope of his talent is show cased in the sensitive and well-written recall of his son's bicycle accident . The man can write!
