I have another tool that works better than this one. I thought this one was going to be the ticket for shingle patchwork. The bar is too short. When I held it to install roofing tac the pry part cut into my hands. Putting my hand further from end placed it too close to the hammer striking point. Because of this I was not able to really make sure it helped installing a tac verses holding the shingle up and using a hammer. I attempted to remove tacs with the wedge but my hand had to be slide under the shingle (to reach up two rows) so I switched to my other longer bar that was designed very similar to the forked end of this bar. If this were longer, I would keep it in my arsenal of roofing tools. Probably put in garage sale.

Good Tool to have when replacing damaged shingles.
How do you fasten shingles without damaging the ones above them? With the Roof Snake by PacTool Int., of course. I haven't found another like it. One end has a slot that holds the head of the roof nail. When the shingle is in place you gently lift the shingle above it and align the Roof Snake and nail. A quick tap of the hammer sets the nail in place and a few more finishes it off. A very simple and cleaver concept that avoids the frustration and damage when installing new shingles to a roof needing repair. It's a solid tool that will withstand constant hammering. As some reviewers have stated the nail holding slot may be too large to hold some nail gauges. I've fixed this issue with (2) modifications: tap the slot to close it and by gluing a ceramic (earth) magnet at the very end of the nail holder.

a helpful tool
the roof snake helps to solve a roofers problem- how to place a nail under the lap of the shingle above without damaging that shingle. the roof snake accomplishes that job-I haven't seen any product like it available in 22 years of roofing. I gave it 4 stars because it could be a little better. The slot that holds the nail is a little too large for standard 11 ga roofing nails which means you have to be very careful and hold the bar very tightly to keep the bar from slipping off or pushing the nail over when you tap it with your hammer- its more of a problem than I expected. the pry bar end could be machined thinner and slightly wider for prying the shingles apart- my favorite prybar is an estwing I-beam bar- however I like the higher bend for more leverage. overall a very useful tool with room for a little improvement.

Very nice tool!
This is a real nice tool - solidly made. It allows you to remove and /or install nails under roof shingles without having to bend the shingle too hard. I use this for installing roof exhaust vents & attic exhaust fans on roofs. Works great!

The nail holder for setting nails was fine, but setting replacement nails was a lot easier ...
Purchased to repair a few errant nails on a new roof I just did - I wish I had just picked up a basic pry-bar instead.
The claw part for getting under shingles / lifting nails is too steep and tore the nail through my shingles. The nail holder for setting nails was fine, but setting replacement nails was a lot easier holding the single out of the way and just hitting it with the hammer instead of hitting the Roof Snake.
Would return it if I still had the box / directions.

Anyone who has replaced an roof shingle can appreciate this tool. No tearing the brittle upper course when you lift to nail the new one. Works great to finish a roof when you work in a roof boot or skylight. Don't leave home with out it.

This tool worked surprisingly well. I was able to drive nails through flashing with just a few hits my hammer. My only negative comment about it is that the straight face of it prevents you from getting nails farther under the shingles, I was able to get a nail about 2" in.

It works as advertised. Solid. If it were longer would have given it a 5 Star. I have large hands so it's a little small for me. Once you use it a number of time it does get easier to use.

Exactly what we needed
We are Plumbing, Heating & A/C Contractor and at one of our jobs we had to lift some roof tiles. Now..we have done this many times using various tools, but the Roof Snake made it so easy. Although there are other similar tools out there there really isn't anything quite like this, at least not that we have found. This was well worth the money and we highly recommend it.
