Not so great after all. UPDATED.
I've been using it for about six weeks and it seems to work very well. Right now the humidity is 39% which will be ok for my ukulele since it's a laminate. lol
UPDATE: Bought a second one and put them in the same room. After a day one reads 45% humidity and 71 degrees and the other reads 49% humidity and 73 degrees.
Don't be fooled that these are in any way accurate.
Update: bought a third and that one reads about 53% when the others are at 45% and 49%. So I'd say at best you are within 5% of the actually humidity level and that's at the very best. I'd guess more like 8-10%. I'm not going to give this a one star rating because from what I see that about as good as you get in this price range with any brand. Oh and I also got three different temp ratings. So don't use this product if accuracy is critical.
UPDATE I just figured out this third one will not drop below 46% humidity no matter what. Our relative humidity was 22% today and it registered 46% outside on my porch.
These are junk. And by the way Vicks doesn't make them and the company that does make them does not warranty them against defects because I called them. I wouldn't trust these other reviews friends because these folk have not really checked this product out in my opinion.
And I hate to keep harping on this but another tasty tidbit of info their "customer support" person laid on me was when I asked why they had so much variance she casually informed me that the whole production run those three came from might have been bad. Which means of course they do no quality control checks. They come off the line and they ship em out without ever testing them. Or even the occasional one. lol
The problem here is that most people buy one and if they get a reading they assume it's good to go and come on here and slap a five star rating on it.

Your mileage may vary...
I was suspicious of this monitor for RH because it read so much higher than three other devices I own. I have a brand new Frigidaire dehumidifier with an electronic display, an Accurite 00613A1 that I bought recently at the same time when I bought the Vicks (to compare against and because the Accurite had a magnet mount on the back), and a 10-15 year old Bionaire unit. All had temperatures within a point of each other. The Bionaire and Frigidaire seemed to be closest to each other on relative humidity readings. But the Accurite was 3-4 percentage points higher than the Bionaire and the Vicks was 9-10 points higher than the Bionaire. I did the salt-based RH test where you put a good quantity of plain dampened salt in a bowl inside a gallon baggie for 8 hours or so with the monitors inside next to the bowl. I did this with the Vicks and Bionaire only (the other units are at another location now) and the Vicks was dead-on as it is supposed to be at 75%. The Bionaire was low at 67%. There may be a difference in accuracy at the different humidity ranges or temperatures but this test led me to believe the Vicks has the most dependable readings.

A JOKE. SAVE YOUR MONEY.
A joke. Save your money. You can get for free a thermometer that works this well, but most people will buy this for the supposed hygrometer, which does not work. It slowly resolves to a reading of 15% anywhere you place it. Indoors. Outdoors. In your car. I even placed it outside in Florida in a July rain storm. Still reads 15% relative humidity. Only got this due to its relatively high rating, but I notice that even much higher priced products have even worse ratings. Unless you want to spend a lot of money and still gamble that you will receive junk, seek another source for your weather devices.

I purchased this because it was suggested by the Vicks humidifier I recently purchased for my bedroom. While reading the instructions of the humidifier, it said to keep the humidity of the room between 40-60%, so I needed humidity monitor. I set this monitor near my bed and it appears to be accurate. The closer I set this monitor to the humidifier, the higher % it reads and further away, the lower % it reads. The monitor uses a AAA battery but the monitor comes with a AAA already installed and requires the a plastic tab to be removed for it to work. The battery is easy to replace via a plastic door at the bottom. The temperature can be changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius by a small rubber push button on the back of the monitor. The monitor is made to stand up by itself on a flat surface and does not have a wall mount option. The overall quality build of this item feels cheap so I would not recommend dropping it. Overall, the item works well and is simple and easy to use.

Bought 2 -They Work Well
These are great! I keep one in my son's room, & one downstairs to monitor the humidity. We are all much more comfortable with higher humidity, & this helps me keep it in a healthy range. I use these with a couple of Vicks warm mist humidifiers. I intend to buy another of each.

infant resistant, accuracy verified via undisputed standard. [indirectly traceable to NBS].
nicely made. face covered by what seems to be a splash shield which should protect from projectile fluids, etc. [for those w/ infants]. easy to read display. can't attest to absolute accuracy, but it closely agrees w/ 2 others, one temp. and a cheap analog hygrometer. wanted to see house humidity w/ wood stove since i was beginning to shrivel & arching when ever i was close to metal objects. 15%, seems about right.

"#1 best-seller" is a waste of money
I bought this to put in my toddler's room - I'm constantly adjusting the air vent in his room because it's too hot or cold for him. Right out of the box it didn't work right - it read 78 degrees (an impossibility with the 0-ish weather, my drafty old house and worn out furnace) with 15% humidity. It sat all night next to his humidifier and didn't budge from 15% or 78 degrees. I put it on the tub ledge while I showered, still 15/78. Put it outside in the snow, 15/78. (Yes, I took the plastic label of the face)
I didn't read the review first - I was in a big, big hurry to make this purchase and leave for work. I bought it without hesitation because it had the #1 designation from BTA-MALL, so I'm partially blaming them for this stupid purchase. They have narrowed the categories they use so drastically they've rendered them useless. I noticed it awhile back with book categories so I shouldn't be surprised they've done it with other products, too. "#1 best-seller in Time Travel Fiction" is good to know. "#1 best-seller in Time Travel Fiction where the main character has blue eyes and a sister named Susan," not so much. Shame on you, BTA-MALL.
I was in a big hurry when I got it too - threw the packaging away so I can't even return it. Feeling pretty dumb now. Don't buy this useless thing.

A handy and accurate way to check humidity and temperature.
I have one of these monitors in each of our rooms. I can quickly tell the temperature and humidity in each room. I use them to monitor my kids rooms during the winter to make sure that the heat doesn't make their rooms too dry leading to nasal issues while they're sleeping. If the humidity drops too low, I turn on a humidifier until it's back to a comfortable level. I also use one in the attic and another in the basement to keep a check on the humidity so I don't have mold issues.

Because I highly recommend, I bought 2 more monitors for kids living ...
I bought because I needed to know indoor humidity levels, especially during cold winters when dry air from heat causes dehydration and cough. I was shocked to see that my humidity was at 26, when healthy indoor humidity is supposed to be at 45. I also bought a dehumidifier which reads 45 humidity level when the Vicks reads 50 to 60.
Because I highly recommend, I bought 2 more monitors for kids living away from home who were also dehydrated, with dry cough.

Great mold monitors!
We bought 4 of these to monitor a long term problem with mold around our floor registers that required duct cleaning, replacement, repair and resizing. Their readouts are not identical, when together, but cover a span of about 5 percent, which is ok with us. We have a 2900 sq ft rancher, 3BR, 4BR, a heat pump and three propane heat sources as backup for power losses. We've had the monitors for 2 months as we transition through spring. We dispersed these widely and moved them about, finding humidity varies about 10% from highest to lowest areas. Highest was in a bedroom most distant from a bathroom and kitchen, with two floor registers! Most of the time the humidity was close to 60% and was best kept about 55% or lower with HVAC set for 1 Cycle Per Hour (default on our Honeywell thermostadt was 3 CPH). The monitors have been a great buy and are helping us deal with humidity issues. We hope we'll now be able to stop mold growth during the humid summer and monitor moisture in the house on a regular basis. Anyone with mold issues should have several of these.
