Great waterproof performer with large capacity and great aerodynamics
One of the best performing products I've ever bought. If you follow the directions for securing the Velcro over the zipper you can forget about any moisture getting inside. This did not let in a drop during several periods of rain while driving nor when rained on all night while parked. I found the effect on gas mileage to be negligible when you packed the smaller items up front and used the aerodynamic properties built into the design. I used a piece of a carpet mat under the carrier and found the straps to secure it easy to use and very functional. I would recommend this for anyone needing a large capacity waterproof carrier.

This thing was amazing! Drove IL to CA no issues
I just moved my entire life across the country thanks to this amazing glorified duffle bag! I moved from Chicago to Southern California and drove through every type of weather, rain, sleet, snow, desert... nothing got wet, nothing was damaged. No tears. I absolutely love this thing. I took many reviewers advice and made sure to pack it really tight/full, and did not open it until I got to my destination in a warmer climate. It snowed the day I arrived in Colorado all day and my car was parked outside with this carrier on top and it was absolutely fine :-) if I needed another one, I would buy that one as well. I invested in some more serious straps to hold down the drag for the longer drive, but other than that I am very satisfied with this product. Easy peasy, folded it up and packed it away for my next adventure. Also bought a mat that is like yoga mat material to put on top to avoid sliding on my roof.

we managed to secure it and it was fine for our trip to the beach and back
This did exactly what I needed it to do. We drove 70+ mph for a total of 14 hours with no issue. We also drove through a torrential downpour for at least an hour, and none of the inside belongings got wet.
My only complaint I have is that I did not realize that although I have a roof rack on my GMC Terrain, the stock rack does not have the crossrails that this requires to secure it to the actual roof rack. So if you plan to secure it to your car's roof rack, be sure that you have crossrails. I didn't have enough time by the time I realized this to either 1) order GMC cross rails or 2) order the clips available on BTA-MALL, so I had to resort to securing it through the vehicle itself. Aside from adding time on the front and back ends of the trip to ensure that the carrier was totally secure, it did end up being securely tied down.
If I had to do it again, I would've ordered the clips, however with the purchase of some caribiners and some ingenuity, we managed to secure it and it was fine for our trip to the beach and back. I would recommend filling it as much as possible, otherwise there would be a lot of flapping and a lot of extra play in it which may or may not cause it to shift.

Heavy Duty Lifesaver
This bag literally saved my life. We road tripped from Florida to Washington, over 3,000 miles, and this bag was full to the max. Each day we would pack it, drive up to 500 miles, get to the next hotel, unpack it and then again the next day. (We could have bought a lock but I didn't trust that) Thus bag withstood rain, snow, heavy wind, sand, everything. It was packed and unpacked 7 times. It fit for 32" duffle bags and a couple other smaller bags with room to spare. We used the through the window method of tie down. Just be sure to read the instructions before you use it, as the ties can be a little complicated to get set up. Overall, this bag was AMAZING!

Great Carrier - Plastic Strap Clasps are Weak
Tough, strong, weatherproof carrier that you can cram all of your things into but the strap clasps are crap plastic. Everything went well till I pulled the straps tight and two of the holding clasps snapped. The straps are not the kind of protection I want when I'm driving down the interstate. I went to Home Depot and bought some straps with metal clasps.
Otherwise the unit itself is good quality. If you're working in cold temperatures the vinyl is hard to work with and zip closed. Not too much road noise and even with the new straps I made sure I checked their tightness at every road stop or gas station fill up. After time any strap will stretch so it's good to check their tightness. With the stock straps I was too concerned that the clasps would snap whenever I tightened them.

Right carrier, Right price, Right on!
Spent a week or so researching what type of roof top carrier we wanted to use when we moved cross country and found this one BTA-MALL which fits our needs perfectly. I made a short list of things I wanted in a roof top carrier; 1. water proof 2. Min. 6 cu ft 3. easy to put up/take down 4. no permanent mounting screws/holes. The Rightline Sport series of car top carriers fit all those requirements and was not expensive as some of the better known brands. Well built, sturdy and quality material are throughout this product. The self sealing zippers are a great feature to aid in the water proofing. We encountered some snow and rain in our cross country drive but all our items in the carrier were dry. Also, once the carrier was secured, it didn't move a bit, very stable and did not flop around. We did fill it out to help with that but with an eye on roof top weight rating of our SUV and careful mounting it was solid. If you are looking for a great, water proof carrier that holds a lot and is easy to secure(and stay secure) look no further.

This car carrier delivered exactly what it promised!
I read all the reviews and educated myself on the specific suggestions of Rightline Gear to those people who had trouble with the performance of this product. I packed it full but not bulging using those packaging air pillows to fill in the gaps. I used boxes or square edges of suitcase in all four corners. I used blankets and pillows to make the front, sides and back smooth. I also used the non- skid roof pad under the carrier. I did not have any noisy flapping or tears or abraded areas. I used the tie downs exactly as the Rightline Gear suggested and even thought I overpacked it (weigh-wise) the load never shifted or moved. I drove for two days between Houston and Colorado Springs at maximum speeds and I was totally satisfied with this product. I have folded it back up and will use it again if and when the need arises.

We have a Chevy traverse which doesn't have a luggage rack. I discovered this luggage carrier and how you could run the straps through the vehicle if no roof rack was available. This worked perfectly for us. Easy set up and take down. Of course added tons of room in the vehicle. I had to use a carabiner for each strap to hook the loops together inside the car which did not come with the carrier (no big deal). I ended up setting the carrier up the night before we left for vacation and of course it literally rained all night long so rain water ran down the straps and got onto the front seats and 1 car seat. This is why I gave it 4 stars but I'm sure you'll have that with any product you run through the doors. However, it did rain for a solid 4-5 hrs on our way south and no water got into the vehicle at all, only when sitting still for long periods of time. Otherwise, all of our stuff stayed bone dry and had no issues with flapping noises or rips/tears. I did make sure all corners were filled with rounded luggage and no sharp edges were poking the sides. Small towels worked well for padding if needed. Would definitely recommend this carrier.

Compatible, but with caveats
This car carrier is useful and functional if you read and follow the instructions. I say this based on a 1,000 mile round trip from Ohio to Michigan. When we bought a 2014 CRV our hard shell carrier was incompatible with the roof rack on the car. I did an online search for something compatible with a CRV and Rightline is what came up.
First off let me say that compatibility is a loose term. The 2011- 2014 CRVs have roof racks that are not adjustable so we could not move it to better accommodate the carrier. We could not fit the clips on to the CRV - the inside rim will not hold them. We bought the accompanying mat, placed the carrier on it, and fastened the straps inside as if we had no roof rack. I then used bunji cords for additional protection and fastened them from one rack to the other across the of the carrier. That secured the load just fine. We held 70mph for a lot of the expressway driving.
Packing the carrier is an adventure the first time. We packed for two weeks of camping. We used old suitcases for the towels and peripherals and positioned them in each of the four corners. This gives the carrier shape and stability. We then bagged the sleeping bags, tarps, beach blankets and towels and packed out the carrier in-between the suitcases. You must make sure there is not a much wiggle room or the carrier will flap and tear. It took a try or two to get it right, but in all fairness this was the first time we used this after 25 years of using a hard shell container. You have to expect a little trial and error. For the trip back the packing went much more smoothly and everything held. The instructions caution you not to hook bunji cords to the loops on the carrier because the force could tear the loop and split the carrier. We did, however, use a couple of bunji cords through the loops and fastened them inside the car. Not necessary, but it did give an extra measure of protection without putting any stress on the loops.
I give this 4 stars because it is roomy and priced fairly. I do think the compatibility was little misrepresented because the clips did not fit, and the roof rack was not adjustable to the size of the carrier. I think these items should have been noted when when I searched for a carrier compatible with the 2014 CRV. That being said i am happy with the carrier and will continue to use it.

If only the weather would have cooperated
We bought the Sport 3 carrier because it seemed to be a reasonable priced alternative to pricey Thule hard shell egg carriers. The construction is light yet rugged, and the zippers are covered by the overhanging top.
I wrestled with the straps a bit because our CR-V does not allow for hooks, but once I got the carrier mounted I was able to transport a.) a footlocker, b.) 3 camping chairs, c.) 2 tents, d.) 2 full sized coolers, e.) 3 back packs/overnight bags, f.) 1 Coleman stove, g.) miscellaneous blankets, balls, etc.
I probably could have fit more if I needed to. I suggest the anti-skid roof mat, but the sheer weight of what I packed probably would have kept it in place anyhow.
We drove a total of 350 miles at speeds between 60-70 miles per hour. The last 175 or so miles was in some pretty significant rain and wind coming out the the mountains of New Hampshire. At speeds of 60-65 we did not hear any noise. This was the original pack going up, and I never exceeded that speed. Coming back, with the carrier repacked and speeds of up to 75 mph I heard a bit of noise, but I do not know if it was because the packing was different or if it was caused by wind and the carrier.
In any event, the carrier stayed dry, the noise was not enough to be bothersome, and the straps going through the vehicle (due to our vehicle not accommodating hooks) did not interfere with head space. The zippers are a bit difficult to pull, but that could be the result of an asymmetrical pack job, and not being able to stand on the back bumper of my vehicle to pull them closed (again, vehicle design).
I am not sure I needed all the space I had with this carrier, and maybe a smaller one would have made less noise, but like a gun, it's better to have the room and not need it than need it and not have it.
We are satisfied customers and would recommend this product.
