Like the rest of you reading all these reviews, I also checked out a whole bunch of food processors before getting this one. I read all the BTA-MALL reviews and then went on to Consumer Reports, Good Housekeeping, etc. etc. What my research told me was that this food processor is up there with the big dogs.
So, here's what I found: I am a tree hugging vegan, with a social worker's budget. I got this food processor to help me with making hummus, other vegan dips and sauces, and chopping. It works great! It didn't break my bank. I have other Hamilton Beach products that have stood the test of time. If this is like them, I plan on having this product for many years.
The people who are complaining that the "hole is too small" need to get a life. I made 3 cups of hummus in this thing in 6 minutes. If I need to make 9 cups of hummus, it might take me 18 minutes. That's a lot of hummus, folks.
The construction of this product is solid and it has the suction cup feet so it doesn't "walk" around the counter. It is easy to put together and easy to take apart and clean. It also looks cool with the brushed chrome and black.
Some people said it was too noisy. I don't know what whisper quiet world these people live in, but this is a machine, and yes, there was a "whirring sound" as it processed my food in seconds.
Not one complaint. My former room mate had a Cuisinart food processor and I found the thing cumbersome to put together and take apart. I like an appliance where I don't need an engineering degree to work the thing.
I am recommending this product with the most stars you give it. It is solid, works great, and affordable.

I still use it and it works fine once you know its limits, just disappointing since i bought it to make large batches of salsa
I'm only giving it 3 stars because it smoked the first time i used it and it smelled like something fried inside of it but i have used it 50+ times since then without any problems ever again.
The only problem i have with this is that it says its 14 cups but you can really only make about half of that if you're mixing wet/juicy ingredients. The center blade is only half the height of the container and once your salsa gets above that point you have to pick up the entire unit to pour into whatever containers you're using to store it which is a big design flaw. I have had this problem with other food processors before but all the pictures i could find make it look like that tall black piece in the middle was solid and went to the top of the container which is one of the reasons i bought this model. The "mixing & chopping" blade is only maybe 2.5 inches of that 5 inch center piece. I have even had salsa leak out through that center blade attachment and come out the bottom of the container on the sides all over the counter. So beware of that before you buy. If you mainly do dry slicing or chopping then you should have no problems
I added a photo so that you can see how tall the "mixing & chopping" blade is that you would use for food processing. There is a hole in the top of it for the center piece on the base that turns the blade. Even without detaching the top from the base it will still leak through the little gaps in the center drive shaft and come out the sides where it locks onto the base if you are mixing a liquid or semi liquid.

I love it! There are numerous complaints about this unit ...
I had an older, very basic food processor that had a small bowl. I finally got tired of constantly having to stop and empty the bowl. Then I found this one. Although it has a very large capacity, it has a footprint similar to most other simalr processors with smaller bowls. And it is not much bigger footprint wise than my old small unit. It works extremely fast and efficiently. The large mouth means less food prep and the large capacity bowl also speeds up processing because you don't have to keep emptying it. I love it! It saves me a lot of time in the kitchen!!
There are numerous complaints about this unit not being able to handle large volumes of liquids because of the bowl design. And that is correct. But it is not a defect. It is clearly a model for chopping and mixing, as per the instruction manual. There is no reference whatsoever to processing liquids with this model in the instruction manual. BUT it handles everything else exceptionally well and can handle 3-4 cups of liquids if you need it to.
While I don't eat french fries, it comes with a 'bonus' french fry slicing disc which is a nice feature if you do.
If you need a food processor for chopping, mixing, slicing and shredding, this is the one to get - you will be thrilled! For the money, it is an exceptional value!

False advertising in photos
This is a decent processor, however I'm giving it 2 stars for false advertising. The main thing that interested me in buying this particular model was the French fry disc. Clearly the fries used in the photo were cut by hand as it is impossible to make long fries that look like that using this blade. I'm adding two photos- one of how the "fries" look when you use the disc, and the other when you cut by hand. Very disappointing

Returning it--poor design doesn't grab food, & can only fill 1/4 or it oozes into middle shaft.
I loved using my old Hamilton Beach 70590 for YEARS. When it went out, I was thrilled to find this 70575 replacement with 14 cup bowl, howEVER, I am SURE I will be returning it, for 2 Reasons: 1) POOR design with how the blades sit, because I had to keep stopping and stir things around with a spoon in order to get it to grab the food, and chop it. Last night it took me forEVER to puree soft-cooked butternut squash. It took a much longer time even, to whirr up my cheeseball recipe, because it just doesn't grab the food and mash it. It took an even longer time to make chicken salad! Salsa took so long to pull into the blades, that the whole batch ended up overly pureed, with remaining large chunks. 2) Although the capacity says 14 cups, every single one of these food preps oozed out the middle, onto the shaft! I would say that you cannot fill this bowl more than 1/4 full! My old 70590 grabbed food and tore it up fast, and I mean fast, and it has a large bowl as well...and I was able to fill it more full...but to my dismay, it is no longer available! I will searching for a better replacement for the old 70590 Hamilton Beach, because this new model really is horrible. One POSITIVE thing I will say however, is that they made the base MUCH lighter, which makes it easier to handle in and out of my cupboard. LOVE the base of this machine! The knob is fine as well, and the increased power of the motor seems great (if only the blade actually did something to process the food effectively), but is IS much, much louder, and my family isn't happy about that. I hope this helps others.

I wish I would have bought the Cuisinart instead
I wish I would have bought the Cuisinart instead. The Hamilton Beach 14-Cup Food Processor does a decent job with slicing and pureeing. It fails considerably with dicing or shredding. When I attempt to use the shredding blade with say peppers or onions, a lot of the item will remain on top of the blade and get stuck resulting in wasted product. When attempting to dice using the blades at the bottom of the food processor, you have to do very small batches at a time (which is ridiculous for something that claims to be a 14 cup food processor). While half a pepper (or other sized veggie) will get diced, the other half will just float above the blades and not chop at all and attempting to keep dicing, will just result in your food being pureed. If you think you still want to purchase this, I would recommend going with a local retailer so at least you'll be able to return the product with ease.

It's a shame that expensive products like this can't use metal parts that won't break
The small plastic latch that you have to press down to lock it in place so it starts the motor broke and snapped in half within 20 minutes of my first time using it. Because every time you need to put more vegetables in, you have to push the latch up, then down again. And because it is just plastic, it didn't take long to break right off. It's a shame that expensive products like this can't use metal parts that won't break. So I am hoping that Hamilton Beach will consider making this small latch out of metal instead of cheap plastic. Also I am hoping that they read this review and send me a new bowl lid with the latch so I don't have to be troubled further by packing the whole thing up and returning it.

Hamilton Beach 14-Cup Food Processor Big Mouth with French Fry Blade
Having a hard time with using the slicer. The food gets stuck. The hole isn't big enough to put in a potato or a cucumber and barely big enough to get a zucchini in it. There is no way to get a good sized tomato in there. Tried slicing cheese and sausage in it but when it got the the end of the item, it just fell on top of the slicer and spun around. The Plunger has a hole on the one side and not on the other. It needs to be closed on both sides and a bit longer so it just sits above the slicer. The blade on the bottom is great. I precook hamburger and chop it up and freeze it. I also make my own laundry detergent and use the blade to chop soap up for the mixture. The porcessing bowl is a wonderful size. I haven't used the French Fry blade yet. It does have excellent safety precautions, everything has to be locked before it will run. Like the suction cups on the bottom of it. It doesn't move. I bought it for chopping hamburger and soap so it is what I needed.

I have four small children and love to cook so have used it quite a bit
I had a cousinart food processor that my ex took with him when he left that I sorely missed. I couldn't swallow paying that much for it myself so read a ton of reviews and went with this one. I have four small children and love to cook so have used it quite a bit, in my opinion it is as good as the more expensive options. Happy to wipe the tears off my face from those dang onions for the last time.
Updated 12/17 still love this thing. It’s still going strong and I use it almost daily.

So I bought this food processor because of all the good reviews, but I can't honestly say if they are true or not. When I got my processor everything looked fine, but I have only used it about 5 times in the 2 months I've had it. I always thought the lid was really snug and it was hard to put on every time. I noticed this week while cleaning it that the plastic of the "bowl" is warped in one spot. I also found out the same night that one of the blades doesn't work. I bought this specifically because it had the french fry blade, but when I tried to use it for the first time the blade will not go down into the machine. It gets stuck on the post and you can't put the lid on while it is like that. Now, because I didn't figure all this out till this week I can't return and exchange it without taking a loss because there was only a 30 day return policy! ARGH! I am a frequent BTA-MALL customer and normally happy but with something this expensive I would think they return policy might be better!
