Great Product, But You Must Know Which Way the Wind is Blowing.
This is a great wind and sun shelter for the beach.
A number of reviews complain about it catching the wind and failing.... well it is a HUGE umbrella and ALL umbrellas will catch the wind and blow inside out if you don't orient them properly. An umbrella this huge catches a LOT of wind even when breezes are quite light.
If you can't tell which way the wind is blowing, and you can't handle a normal umbrella in the wind at the bus stop you will probably screw up big time with this monster. But anyone who can figure out how to point the top into the breeze will love this thing. (Hint, turn your head until the wind noise sounds even in both your ears; now you are looking directly upwind. That is the direction in which the top of the umbrella must be constantly maintained both while you are deploying it and after it is set up. Turn it away from that direction at your own risk and to the peril of those people down the beach from you. And DO NOT let children set it up without your supervision. An errant gust could rip it from their hands in an instant sending it tumbling into other beach goers.)
I know that sounds condescending, but it is not meant to be. I taught sailing most of my life and so I know first hand that most people really honestly do not know how to tell which way the wind is blowing. It isn't hard to figure out, but if you are one of those people who has never thought about it much, ......well.... figure it out before you open this on the beach and either get it ripped from your grasp or blown inside-out and broken. An umbrella this size filled with wind from even a very, very gentle breeze will generate forces so great that it that will positively astound most non-sailors.
One caveat: If you are at a venue or beach where the wind swirls around a lot varying in direction by more than about 120 degrees this may be a poor choice because in that situation you cannot set it up such that the top is reliably always pointed into the wind.
This is NOT like a big cafe umbrella you see at outdoor tables. It is not that heavy duty and not meant to be. It sticks into the sand, not into a weighted cast iron base under the table. You wouldn't use this in place of a cafe umbrella. It would not be suited to the task.
The center support pole is relatively skinny. This is good since it lets you push it into the sand better. I have had beach umbrellas with large diameter poles, and ones with small diameter poles; small always beats out large for getting a good "set" deep into the sand. If the Sport-Brella is deployed as shown in the photos with one edge down onto the sand and the top pointed into the wind, you don't need to get the center pole terribly deep as the wind will only try to shove it in deeper, not pull it out.
Other reviewers spoke of some sort of cardboard insert in the pole that was difficult to remove without doing damage. I guess they fixed that because mine had nothing of the sort. The whole thing was very easy to unpack and deploy. (September 2014)
The included storage/carry case (bag) is a little over four feet long so it isn't going to fit in the bottom of your suitcase but ought to fit into most automobile back seats or trunks with out any issues. It has a strap to sling it over your shoulder leaving your hands free for coolers, beach chairs, whatever as you walk down to your favorite spot. Nothing fancy, but it works.
Overall I love this thing as a portable beach cabana/shelter.

Just buy it! :)
If you are reading this, stop and just buy this. You wont regret it. It's amazing. Easy to set up. We got soaked at the beach with it on Saturday while my LO was asleep underneath and she never got a drop of rain on her. It cast a large shaded area if positioned the right way. Can't say enough good things about it. Lightweight. More convienant that taking our tailgating style tent to the beach. Although we usually take both. The large tent for parents chairs/cooler/etc. sport brella for kiddie pool, sand toys, etc for our girls to play undernearth. The flaps on the sides are nice to get a breeze flowing underneath - again determined by positioning with the beach. Although we primarily use on the beach you can use in your backyard for shade for a little one. Or at a ballgame, etc.

Best. Beach umbrella. EVER.
This is a great beach umbrella- it's heavy duty (and therefore a bit heavy to carry), but well worth it. My friends and I went to the beach on what turned out to be a particularly windy day, and saw dozens of umbrellas turn inside out or just straight up blow away. But not ours. Our umbrella remained firmly staked in the sand, allowing us to bask in the shade while we laughed at the plebeians around us as they struggled with flimsy, inverted canopies.

Great umbrella when you need it.
This thing works well. Bought it for use during son's soccer games. Used it in windy rainy weather and it performed well. It kept us dry and warm with plenty of room. Shorter chairs would be be better than taller chairs as you can push them further back into the shelter without hitting your head. It takes up about the same room as 2 chairs side by side.
It's just about as easy to set up as opening an umbrella!

Really works for sporting events.
I bought this Sport Umbrella to give us shade when we watch our daughter play golf.
1. Really large umbrella. 3 of us fit comfortably under it. The shade it provides extends past the umbrella if the the afternoon sun is behind the umbrella. It casts a large shadow.
2. Great for early morning or late afternoon sports. Gives maximum shade.
3. Very simple to use. Open it like an umbrella and set it down and fix it in place.
4. Has proper vents so that the heat is not trapped and allows for a breeze.
5. Simple to close as well just like an umbrella.
6. Comes with a carry bag.
1. Nothing really
This far easier to bring than a Folding Tent and much lighter. Really great umbrella.

Great shade and rain protection while easy
I love my Sunbrella! I've used it at the beach and poolside at swim meets.
At the beach: really easy to set up. Way easier to get into the ground than the traditional umbrellas. Enough space to keep our gear protected.
Poolside: provided shade for my husband and I to watch our kids at a swim meet. When the thunder clouds rolled in during a meet, all of the other families were jealous of mine, as the whole family fit under the Sunbrella while we waited for the hordes of people to funnel through the tiny exit. Several people asked me where they could buy one.
Really easy to open and close.

Buying this again and recommended to others
I love this umbrella and really have no complaints about it but you have to be careful not to get sand inside the pole-otherwise you cannot store the stake in the pole anymore and would need to put it in the carrying bag. It is very stury and built with quality. I have had it for a about 3 years and now and have to buy another one because someone forced the stake into the umbrella pole. Now it is stuck inside and I cannot use my umbrella anymore. I am ordering the same one again and would recommend to others. Too bad the price went up $10 from 3 years ago. Also the strap on the carrying bag eventually tore off-but it's an easy fix to sew back on.
The weight of umbrella isn't too bad but if you're walking like a mile to the beach sure it will start to feel heavier and the strap will dig into your shoulder. The umbrella itself has held up impressively well even on very windy days.

Love this umbrella!!! Anyone that has kids in sports should have one, its has protected me from rain, cold wind, and hot burning sun!!! Its a good size, my husband and I both fit sitting on our camping chairs. Also its very easy to put up and put away, badically its a large umbrella and as easy to put away as a camping chair!

Nice quality good shade
Really nice quality and perfect for the bleachers..set it up in the back though. Provides deep shade even in front if you use it on the bleachers. Perfect for us watching the kids swim practice. Easiest way to set up, for me, is to tilt it upside down and let gravity open it up, then push the locking handle up. Still trying to figure out the best way to roll it up, to me seems better to fold the outside flaps inside prior to wrapping everything together.

Most importantly it is light weight and easily goes back into the travel bag at the end ...
Makes going out to the beach so much more enjoyable. It is so simple to set up and it stays in place well. It's quite large which allows my wife, kid and I to all fit underneath. Most importantly it is light weight and easily goes back into the travel bag at the end of the day.
