A nice, light, solid, attractive little unit.
Has a single pin on the bottom and single button on the top, so will only pass through the main flash trigger. it doesn't have the extra pins that the Olympus system uses to pass exposure and control signals between the camera and flash: so I don't understand why it lists only Olympus cameras as being compatible -- it seems like it ought to work with any camera.
On the other hand, it has a little blind hole towards the front of the flash mount that matches the retracting pin that modern Olympus flashes use to lock the flash to the hot shoe, so maybe that's why they emphasize Olympus compatibility.
There's a rotating ring on the bottom that you can screw down so as to lock the unit onto the camera's hot shoe. It works fine.
It has a nice, clicky button on the back labeled "Battery Check". Pressing it both lights a nice, bright, red LED on the top of the unit and fires a flash (if attached). Apparently there's a battery inside, but you have to unscrew four tiny screws on the bottom to open the unit so I guess they expect the battery to last for a very long time.
It also has a PC socket on the front for a traditional flash cable.
Simple and reliable, with the look and feel of a quality product.

OLYMPUS PEN E-P5 with SMDV SM-512 Hot Shoe Safe Sync
The SMDV SM-512 for Olympus works great on my Olympus PEN E-P5. Works well with 2 OM T-32 Flash units, OM T-20, OM T-45, OM T-10 Ring Flash and OM T-8 Ring Flash. You will need to experiment with the manual settings on flash unit and camera, but will pay off well when you get used to working in manual modes. 60 sec shutter speed works well @ Low ISO setting for normal flash conditions. Macrophotography takes a bit more fine tuning of manual settings. I find that it is more interesting and fun since you can just "trash can" the bad shots until you get it right.

Works great, do not buy the more expensive adapters
This allowed me to use an old Olympus T-20 flash with my Pen E-P5. You do have to set the aperture and the shutter speed manually, but the results are much better than the camera's built in flash.
There are more expensive adapters that permit the use of older flashes on new cameras, but my experience with them has not been good. This unit does the job at a much lower price and with greater reliability.

This hot shoe is "HOT"
This adapter is great, it works flawlessly with my Vivitar 283 flash and my Bogen 400 Studio Strobes. I am using an Olympus E-PL1 camera. I tested it last night and the results were great. The Hot Shoe Adapter locks very secure onto the camera hot shoe and it holds the lock down of the flash just fine. You can fire a mounted flash and studio strobes at the same time; very cool. I think it is great how folks keep designing equipment to adapt the old with the new; this is a great example of such. If you have an Olympus Digital then buy the lens adapter from this same seller and use all your old Olympus lenses on your new camera.

Does what it says
I purchased this to use on my Olympus E-PM1 camera with an older flash from the 80's. THe flash that comes with the cmaera doesn't do a good job and I had an old Sunpak 322D laying around, but the trigger voltage was too high for the camera. With this mounted I use the 322 and the flash pictures are much better. One note you will have to use the flash in manual to since auto doesn't work with this setup. I also set the camera on manual and selected the shutter speed and aperature.

Exactly what I needed
I needed this adapter to provide a PC connection for firing my studio lights with my Olympus OM-D. Turns out I needed it for use with my Nikon D-600 as well, since there was none built-in.
Build quality is quite decent and I've not problems whatsoever.

This thing is simple and does what it is suppose to do. It works and it even comes with a battery indicator. Not sure how long the battery will last or what kind it is, but it hasn't died out on me yet.

Works great! Was really surprised and pleased to find this. Was a little nervous about it not being a known brand but so far so good, and saved about $85 in the process.
