Has worked well for the first two uses
These diagnostics use so many 3-letter acronyms that you need to follow along with the manual at first. That's not the fault of the tester however, rather it's the government-mandated standard. It quickly told me the PT Cruiser has a bad power steering pressure switch, and the Explorer has no fault codes. Some people mentioned it gives a "link error." I found you need to turn the ignition switch to the second "on" position--where all the indicator lamps on the dash light up.
BTW, a local auto parts store has this identical unit with a different brand name for $69.

functional; bare-bones user interface
Works on my 2012 Subaru. It identified the code responsible for the check engine light going on. It doesn't directly tell you what the code means; you have to look it up in the booklet that comes with the device. It's got a one-line display and two buttons with which you select and execute items from a 5-item menu. It took me a couple tries but I was able to use it to clear the code and make the check engine light go off (it came back on a few days later which was not a surprise since I hadn't corrected the underlying problem).

If you are a clueless car person like me, this little gadget is a life saver. My check engine light comes on for all sorts of random little things that are not always important to address right away, so this helps me to distinguish between the necessary and the unnecessary fixes I need to address without spending 100 bucks to take it in to the shop to run a diagnostic. Love this thing!

Works as expected
Works great on my 1999 Acura Cl. Read the code and cleared it. Auto Zone used to do this for you, but my local AZ will read the code but refuses to clear it. Instead try to sell you on their $65.00 reader.
For the price its way cheaper than a mechanic and you will always have a code reader ready.
What is not to like?
Note- Plug it in with the key off. Then turn key to ACC do not start car. Very simple product.

CarMd? No get this! Auto Zone Tested & Approved!
Bought this for my older Mercedes with about 80,000 miles. It needs a bit of maintenance now and then. Now I don't have to wait for someone to tell me what's wrong. I can call the dealership and TELL THEM what's wrong and know how to proceed in a prompt manner. Oh how I love this. Just a tip: Make sure your ignition is turned to the LAST position before starting. If not it may not be able to read/connect to the computer properly. Even the tech from AutoZone thought it was cool. Forget CarMD and Buy this! CarMD is suppose to tell you how much it cost to fix the problem. Thats fine but for this price I can take the extra step and look it up on my smart phone or call Mercedes...who cares? I just don't mind. Great choice for me and my travels.

Works as advertised. Codes only, no details. High level codes are not even in the book but are vehicle specific.

I get a "check engine" light from time to time and this lets me test my attempts to correct it by erasing the indicator and see if it comes back on again. Much better than seeing the annoying message stay on constantly. I am on my 4th product test and hope this is the cure, but if not I can reset and try something new.

No fancy features but a great price and it works.
I bought this just to reset the check engine light. It's so cheap that it's still a bargain even if that's all you use if for. However, it will show you the diagnostic codes also. There are no fancy features and you have to look up the code on the enclosed documentation but you're going to Google the code anyway for your particular car so the lack of a long text readout is not much of a problem.

invest your money in fixing the problem, not diagnosing it
Great value. A no-nonsense OBDII reader for my 4Runner. Will diagnose your check-engine light and let you clear the code. Only a fool would waste money taking her car to the mechanic for the sole purpose of finding out why the check engine light is activated. Instead, buy this tool and figure it out yourself. Then invest your money in fixing the problem, not diagnosing it. There is really no upside to buying a more expensive reader, unless your car has a proprietary code system, such as VAG-COMM used by volkswagen.

Bought early Jan 2016 and it works works fine multiple times on 2008 Mercury Sable & 2009 Toyota Corolla. Orange color makes it easier to find/see and the instructions pretty idiot proof, simple and clear. The big thing is you can make it clear codes so you can see if what you changed actually worked or not. I still look on line to check codes for the the specific car you are checking. When done checking, remember to recap the car's connector to keep the connector protected.
