Obvious poor design if pulling the old batteries out kills it
Went to change the batteries for the first time and the product has died. Display is blank. Tried 3 different sets of new batteries. Confirmed the batteries work in other things. Looked up the manual has no trouble shooting section. Would return it if I could but it has been too long. Obvious poor design if pulling the old batteries out kills it. Was happy with it up until that moment. Way too expensive to only last 2 months.

Unreliable and getting worse.
Timer system worked as advertised for about a week or two, then it began to fail. I had it set to turn on for 45 minutes twice a day, and it would initially turn on and off as programmed for both times each day. Later, it began to turn on and off properly the first time, and on, but not off the 2nd time. I could manually turn it on (even though it already was on) and off, and the valve would properly shut.
Now, it is beginning to fail to turn off after the first run, so it's just on all day after the first time is set. None of the programming was changed, and there are fresh batteries in the device. It simply doesn't shut the valve off reliably when it should. There shouldn't be any mineral buildup as it's connected to house water (from the city/county) and has only been operating for a short time. I have this connected to a hose straight off the house spigot into a misting system for my greenhouse. Very disappointed.
UPDATE -- June 19, 2017 -- Not only does the unit refuse to turn off as programmed, but even when the dial is turned to OFF, it will continue to turn on at pre-programmed times. So, even when OFF, will turn on at either/both times set and refuse to turn off automatically after the allotted time. Garbage product. Almost certainly a software defect as the valve will turn on as programmed and can manually be shut off with some trickery (telling it to run manually even though it's still on, then turning dial to off will shut it off).

Best I Have Found So Far, But Still Some Minor Issues.
I have never had good luck with mechanical or battery powered water timers. Either the pressure drop is to high and my downstream water pressure is inadequate to operate the sprinkler, they leak, or simply don't function correctly on the timer. These timers appear to be the best I have found so far. I don't have an issue with the pressure drop and the four I have worked well over the past year. They do all have a small amount of leak by (one worse than the others), but since they are all on soaker hoses right now, I have found the leaking acceptable. All-in-all this is the best option I have found short of an expensive irrigation with timer system.

Works well, fixed one that died, but why should I have to?
We picked up a few of these to assist with watering while we were out of town and ended up using them to help water all summer long. The way you set them up is great. The connections are fantastic if you use washers or some plumbers tape. However, after 1 season, we had one of the units give up the ghost. Changing batteries did nothing. Since we were nearly 1 year on with them I unscrewed the back and took a look inside: there was condensation on some inside housing and components. I dried up what I could (there's an exposed copper wire that looks like the rubber tubing around it had shrunk due to weather) and the unit works again! I don't know if I'll have to do this with the others at some point, but it makes me think that most are likely serviceable and can be weather-proofed even more for long-term use. I shouldn't have to do this, though, hence the "4 star" becomes "3 star".

These are far better than orbit!
My husband and I own a Landscape Design company and just purchased a property with no irrigation. We needed a temporary solution for some palms. We tried orbit. Three separate occasions we had to return Orbit products to Home Depot because they broke within a week. Finally we ordered rainbird. Three individual timers on a three head hose bib attachment set to run consecutively, with hoses and rotor heads attached to the end are now waterring successfully 2,400x 1 gallon triple adonidia. Thanks Rainbird!

Water would not turn off, buyer beware
I bought this early in the planting season. I did not start using it for over a month after I purchased it. At first, it seemed as though all of the features were well worth it. I have several other brand timers that don't allow different days.
That said, I attached this to my hoses at the end of April for the first time. I turned the water on and all seemed good. The next morning it turned on as it should, but when I went out several hours later, it was still running. It seems like the valve opens and never shuts again. It would 'click', but the water would still flow after the schedule was over. I would not recommend this timer. Rain Bird has great irrigation systems, but I would suggest looking into another brand for the timer.

Surprised that i can't return faulty product
I was excited to use this product at first. My parents are professional landscapers and recommended this brand. When I set it up, the valve was broken and the water went straight through it, the timer didn't engage the valve at all. I reset it, changed the batteries (the first set was brand new), reset the timer, re attached the timer, and nothing worked. I wish that i could return this item but apparently there is not a return option. I ended up buying the melnor aqua drip timer with the quick connect starter set. Paid a little bit more, but it is currently working and was just as easy to set up.

I like this unit a lot. I am quite pleased with it.
I chose this as it was supposed to allow a larger flow rate than some other options I looked at. I don't know full specs for the unit. I can only say what I run.
I run a drip system from a shallow well. Around 8.5 gpm @ about 30 psi at the pump. I have a flow meter on the system. There was no observable difference in flow with the timer.

Raining On My Parade?
I ordered two of these to build a "poor man's yard sprinkler. Great user interface and accurate operation. Did have one of the two units malfunction. No matter what the setting (Even OFF!) the solenoid would engage EVERY TWO HOURS. Contacted Rain Bird via phone and they made restitution immediately & painlessly. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Nice intuitive setup & controls
Be aware that the water flow direction matters!
Due to a shortage of quick-disconnect fittings in my tool box, I inadvertently caused the water to run thru the unit backwards compared to how the basic connectors are made. The thing wouldn't shut off until I found some proper quick-disconnect fittings that made the water run thru it in the right direction.
If you don't use QD's, this problem would never occur since the unit's female fitting normally mates with the male hose bib on the house, so water would flow the way that (apparently) helps the valve flip correctly. Hope this makes sense.
Setting the above issue aside, I like the unit's intuitive setup & control system. Not sure at this point how long the batteries will last, or how long the whole unit will last.
