1 Stars By D. M. Castro on 2016-10-20 It's Ok. *UPDATED* This thing works, just the feel of it has me doubting the quality of it and how long it will hold up. I would be willing to pay a decent bit more for an item that feels like it will last and with this thing I have my doubts since its hit or miss if this thing will leak when I use it and also now when I screw the two pieces together they no longer line up in a symmetrical way, the reservoir is at an odd angle to the nozzle.
*6 MONTH UPDATE* Had to toss this thing in the recycling bin, pure junk. With it only being used twice a month to spray an enzyme mixture on a really small patch of fake grass the dogs use to go potty on, well it could not hold up to such extreme use and started leaking so bad that it no longer was suctioning the product out of the reservoir and or giving any hint of a decent spray. This thing was not abused, just hooked up to a hose and sprayed for about 5 minutes and then thoroughly rinsed out and allowed to dry and then stored indoors till its next use. Twice a month it saw such torturous use, what a joke.
4 Stars By Brer Rabbit on 2018-05-01 Nice sprayer, but it restricts spray power somewhat - Fixed that. Used this first with TSP. Mixing the TSP with hot water and dissolving it completely posed no problem for the sprayer. There was never any leakage (see why below). The handle was comfortable to hold. Jet setting was way under the power of my ordinary hose nozzle so I'm going to look into removing the restricting valve at the hose connection of the sprayer. May not be possible without damaging the unit. We would have liked more power than what we get as is. Mix setting dial was easy to use and with a little experimentation we were able to adjust the concentration very nicely. Update: it is possible to remove a portion of the flow restriction valve, and it does increase the power and distance of the jet spray without interfering with anything else. There is a small plug-like insert where the hose connects. Remove it carefully because you will be putting it back. With the valve removed proceed to remove the astericks shaped restriction from the valve 'plug.' I used a small knife to cut through the projections. Once removed replace the plug back into the handle as it's essential to seal the connection with the hose.
Also I found why I had no problem with leaking at the handle as described by others. I inadvertently had two seals in place of the one which comes with the unit. It did leak when I removed the extra seal so there are two seals in the unit now.
5 Stars By Scott H. on 2018-03-19 This is a great sprayer! I've been through 3 or 4 other hose-end sprayers and this one is by far and away the best. I just sprayed a half acre for weeds and I didn't get 1 drop of water on me. My shoes and pants are usually soaked after spraying that much. If you buy this product and it leaks; I would check the hose end to make sure it has a gasket and make sure the bottle is attached properly. I think the way the bottle is threaded could cause problems for some people. I had basically given up on getting a good sprayer after looking at the reviews for all the products out there. This one is a keeper!
4 Stars By Scott Lindner on 2017-05-17 Super easy and convenient This sure made spraying for dandelions easy. I used the Ortho brand concentrate in the one quart bottle that fits this sprayer. I set the concentration mix and pulled the trigger. It's that easy. I was shocked to see all of the comments about leaking. Mine didn't leak. Not even a drop. Did I get lucky and get the rare good one? Or maybe there is a threading or seating issue that I was careful to make sure set right while others didn't catch it didn't seat right? I dunno, but for me, this worked flawlessly. I docked a star because it has a cheap feel, and Ortho didn't put a site gauge on their bottles of Ortho so you can see how fast you're using the product (I know, not *this* product per se).
4 Stars By Phillip A. Williams on 2018-06-10 Good inexpensive product The sprayer which I received works as advertised. Specifically I experienced no leaks at all and it worked as expected without any issues at all. Having said that, I will agree that the unit is not a "professional grade" device, but then it is not priced like one either. As noted by others, I would probably pay twice this amount for a heavier unit with a larger capacity. This device is specifically designed to use premixed, concentrated LIQUID plant food, however you can use dry fertilizers if you dissolve them before hand. I had some how managed to accumulate several pounds of Miracle Grow plant fertilizer and wanted to begin using it on my rather large garden. Mixing a gallon at the time and hand applying was not an option, so I purchased this product. According to the Ortho Customer Service people, if one mixes 32 tablespoons of MG in a gallon of water and then set the Ortho unit to apply at a rate of 4 oz per gallon you will deliver 8 gallons of properly mixed fertilizer. I personally prefer to use the "weakly, weekly" method and cut down the amount of fertilizer to 1/4 the recommended amount and apply weekly. All in all, the Ortho unit is an inexpensive and handy little unit which works as advertised.
5 Stars By Robert C. Geitz on 2017-07-20 Over the years, I've had several different designs of ... Over the years, I've had several different designs of sprayers. This one works well, the downward angle for the hose connection relieves pressure on the connection and aids handling.
1 Stars By justin macfarland on 2018-06-02 Leaked everywhere. Do not buy Ortho, i hope I received a bad sprayer. Water leaked everywhere. The oz/gallon adjuster is not even close to accurate. I set it to 6oz/gallon which should of covered 1,000 sq ft. Covered 25 sq ft and checked the level, it was almost empty. I tried to fix the leaks by taping it together and adding plumbers tape in between the white nozel and red handle but it didn’t work. Water just started leaking out of the trigger. Good Quality control. Disappointed
3 Stars By Rick T on 2017-06-04 Ortho hose end sprayer. Once you work with it and find out where to hold the container and spray head when screwing back together after filling with chemical it works well but it is easy to cross thread. You face the spray head as shown in the picture to install back on the container and it turns two full turns. Set exactly at the rate your chemical states and it doesn't spray a great distance, at most fifteen feet. I would buy again.
1 Stars By John on 2018-06-23 I want to like it, but it leaks I tried to twist it on really tight, but it still leaked. I tightened it as much as it would go, and it still leaked. I then tried to tighten it more, and it broke because it was as tight as it would allow for. I want to like it because it is really an amazing idea and functions well as a product besides the leaking, but I don't want fertilizer getting on my hands sometimes so that's unacceptableeeee!!!!!! So in extent this definitely should not be used for any applications that are hazardous for direct skin contact.
The leaking is minimal enough that the waste is definitely not a big deal, but again, enough that whatever is inside gets on the users hands. Only a few teaspoons probably, but still.
UPDATE: haven't been able to contact ORTHO. They are ignoring me. Get this, expect it to leak no matter how many different ways you try to twist it on, and expect Ortho to not help with the warranty even after just a few months. Forget 10 years. 1 star
5 Stars By K, Ron on 2018-05-08 Probably the most reliable simple spray bottle. I've owned one of these before purchasing a new one here on BTA-MALL and can generally say it was the best experience I've had with a spray bottle.
Simply put, set the amout per oz., Use, rinse, wash and store.
I brought one of these from a local hardware store in the past and made the mistake of leaving liquid inside causing it to corrode.
Just follow the care instructions, make sure to rinse out the access solution in the spray bottle.
