Great toy that makes colorful pretend gumballs.
My daughter loved playing with this machine. She had it for almost a year and the play dough dried up on the inside one day and she cranked it the wrong way (very forcefully) and stripped the gears. I like that the back opens for easier access and cleaning. You have to be sure to get all of the play dough out of it before putting it away or else it can be a pain.

I was not happy when the product first arrived as a shipping sticker ...
I was not happy when the product first arrived as a shipping sticker was simply stuck on the product box itself, which looked like it travelled through some rough places to get here. When I opened the box to check the contents, two parts were not in plastic so I still do not know if it was a used product or not. However, kids loved it and literally played all day. It did not come with very much play-doh so I had to purchase more separately.

jammed up and broke
The play doh got stuck inside and would not work. I took the entire thing apart but could not get it to work. My three year old son was so disappointed. I would not recommend this product to friends and family. It is a nice idea and lots of fun but it is not a well put together toy. I love play doh and so does my son. However, this product was not one of our favorites due to poor construction and design.

Pretty neat! With a caveat...
Play-Doh is a classic fun thing, even though it's a bit of a pain for carpets. There are all kinds of playsets, and some are better than others. I'd rate this on the great side.
My kids are a bit older (5 years is the youngest playing with it) and there is a bit of a technique to be used to play with the cranking part well. But! They love it, and love that it spits out these perfectly swirled marbles of playdoh.
Which is a bit of a drawback, too. If you're a parent (or a parent of a child) who cares about mixing the colors... you're going to have to let that go for this one! My kids and I get a bit bothered about when the colors mix badly. *For us* this was an easy fix. They only get 2 or 3 colors at a time with this one. Once they've fed it through the machine umpteen times, and it's losing the "ooooh! pretty!" spark of fresh swirls in favor of a uniform muddy purple color, I pass over a new shade to mix in. Hooray! It's all fun again!
Another thing that's very neat about this kid is all the molds imbedded in the set. Gummi Bears, Swedish fish, etc. etc. etc. The molds are EVERYWHERE. My kids can self-entertain for quite a while creating all kinds of shapes and playing with them. It's pretty sweet to see their excitement when they're making things. They haven't made the lollipops yet, but have filled plastic containers with marbles and shapes. Then squish squoosh squash! Repeat!
I'm very glad we got this one.
on 2013-01-08 Follow the instructions
We broke out the Sweet Shop Candy Cyclone this morning. I was aware of some of the negative reviews, and was anxious to see how it works, and whether the play appeal for the kiddos was effective. My 4 (almost 5) year old daughter and 3.5 year old son played almost an hour with it. Please, "Playdoh Purist" out there, you must lay aside all attempts to not mix colors with this particular set, because the nature of it demands it! :) The instructions make it very clear of the width to be placed inside the Candy Cyclone. And, if you follow them, everyone will be happy. I would definitely recommend an adult be close by on hand to monitor this until the child gets the hang of it. It is EXTREMELY difficult to remove the playdoh while fresh if a malfunction happens. Unbeknownst to me, my daughter had put more playdoh than was required and this unfortunate consequence resulted (we were all warned). The troubleshooting recommends waiting until it is dry, but hey, how difficult is that with little ones?! So, for about 10 minutes, I worked with it, and it eventually happened. However, I do believe that if all parties involved are aware of the rules and implications for not following them, this can be a very fun toy, encouraging lots of imagination. I think I would have loved this as a kid! But, other than the malfunction potential, it can be fun even as a parent!
As I have stated in a couple of other Playdoh reviews, as a parent who has been through lots of Playdoh sets through the years, I believe the only set a child (or parent for that matter!) will ever need is the Melissa & Doug Shape, Model and Mold
. It is simple and encourages lots of play. The dough is nothing to write home about, but the kit itself will work with any play dough. And, there's not a 100 pieces floating around. Simple is good.

As others have commented, this product works once, and that is all. We read all the instructions, and then carefully inserted a small tube shape of play-doh per instructions. One perfect ball rolled out and that was it. We homeschool, so I found this a perfect learning opportunity. Each child took a turn at unscrewing it. The entire unit had to be unscrewed and deconstructed. Then my son opened the gear box to find that same piece others mentioned as being the problem it is just a white piece of plastic with a gear groove in it. We removed the piece, and each child received the chance to figure out the gearbox and make it work. When we finally got it in working order, we put it back together.
Now the gearbox works, but the product does NOT produce balls. However; it does a nice job of producing beaded play-doh jewelry and/ funky worms.
The rest of the product works as expected. They are just molds with no working parts.
We enjoy the product anyway and the fun we have constructing and deconstructing that. If you are not that kind of family, I would suggest considering a different product.

This is a very cute set! My daughter found it while she was browsing through youtube.
- easy assembly with clear instruction
- comes with a few cans of playdoh so she went into action right away!
- it really worked like a charm! and I like the little syringe on the side too.
- it promotes both fine / gross motor skills in children. not to mention creativity!
- really can't think of any except I have to deal with the cleaning part.
- also I think it's common sense that you have to watch your child while they are playing with toys that contains small parts and non consumable products to ensure their safety.
Bottom line: Seeing the excitement on my child's face is priceless~~

I don't like this toy. My daughter does like playing with it, but no matter what I do, the play doh gets stuck inside it and once it hardens you cannot use it. There is a door that opens that is supposed to let you get the play doh out, but there are still places where you can't reach it, even with a knife. I ended up disposing of the top part of the toy but keeping the bottom part, because you can use the molds on the bottom to make little candies. She also likes the little arm that comes down makes candies that way as well.

Do not buy
Do not buy this for your child unless you enjoy frustration. I would give this zero stars if I could. Very difficult for my four year old to play with by himself. For this to work properly the playdoh has to be a thin snake which is difficult for him to do and the playdoh balls get clogged and do not roll down the shoot as it shows in the commercial. Overall, very disappointing. On the positive side it did arrive quickly and it is sturdy. But what a headache!

Good even for older kids
My daughter is 9 and my son is 10 and they've been using the Play-Doh sweet Shoppe Candy Cyclone Set often for about a month. It's a good toy for quiet play and to get them off the electronics. So far it seems pretty sturdy. Happy with this product.

super fun toy
super fun toy, just watch so no play-doh gets left behind. If it dries up in the spinners, its a pain to get "un-jammed".

fun playdoh toy
A solid, fun playdoh toy. Do be sure to clean it out all the way before you put it back up as cleaning it is a bit tedious if the stuff gets dry in the gears, but otherwise no complaints.

I love this and so do my kids! It has been one of the best play doh sets that they have made. It keeps my kids happy & content and they have such a blast playing with it.

Product works just fine when loading directions are followed.
My grandson just loves the product. Plays with it for hours on end. We showed him at first how he had to make small "snake-like" rolls of playdoh and he has not had the problems I read about on other reviews with it clogging up and all.
