Super heated a small batch of rice...and quickly boiled over
This cooker is very nicely made, simple, elegant and easy to use. I don't know how well it might have cooked risotto, as I sadly returned it after making one batch of rice. I used only three cups of basmatti rice and the appropriate amount of water...turned it on and within just a few minutes, it was bubbling over and making a messy (yet aromatic) situation in my kitchen. I so wanted to like this cooker and actually hoped I'd done something wrong (not sure what that could be, since I make rice several times a week in an assortment of other cookers -- all without incident). Fingers crossed, I phoned Breville during business hours and left my number for a call-back, but didn't hear from them. I see lots of great reviews here from others. So perhaps I had an "aggressive" rogue unit that over-heated and caused the rice to boil over rather violently. I wish the best for others.

I must admit I haven't tried the steaming or slow cooking features. BUT, it makes the best risotto I have ever made. I made 2 different risotto recipes, and used the rice cooking feature. Absolutely delicious. I was skeptical that the risotto would be edible, but they were both incredible. I'm on a work trip right now, but I am excited to get home and try the slow cooker and steaming features! Next time, I will use more water when I cook rice, it was a little too al dente for us.
I used the slow cooker function yesterday. Incredibly delicious shredded beef. My husband requested the left over shredded beef over a fresh cooked meal. I still have not tried the steam function, hopefully I can try test that this week.

smart grill, coffee maker and large crock pot
I am a hugh Breville fan owning their oven, smart grill, coffee maker and large crock pot. I am disappointed and will be returning it. I followed the rice directions and it was too dry. Tried again with 2 parts water to rice. It was crusty on the bottom, but before it was done it overflowed. I tried steaming and cooked the broccoli to mush before going into warm mode. Maybe I just got a bad unit. :(

This is a versatile product, I am able to ...
This is a versatile product, much smaller size than a regular crock pot, one dish for a day and you're done, no more leftovers then I don't overeat too. I am able to saute all kind of meats and cook on low setting. The main reason I donated my frying/sauteeing pans..Now only 2 left: a non-stick and boiling pans. So practical, more space than keeping other pots, the results are the same, big time saver compared to standing and stirring.. Salud to whoever created and further innovated this product..Am going to persuade my mother and sister to use it.

I've owned the product for about two weeks now and waited until I used all the features before I wrote a review. First, I've never owned a rice cooker - so I don't know how well they work. The first thing I tried was a simple basmati rice. I followed the directions, even though I've never cooked rice with a one liquid to one rice measure. It's always been two to one. The rice turned out a little hard and had a very crusty bottom. So I tried again, this time using my normal ratio of one cup rice to two cups liquid and the rice turned out much better. This time it was fully cooked, but still had a little bit of a crust on the bottom. Next I tried the slow cooker feature. I sauteed some onions and shanks, and made split pea soup. Turned out perfect. I love the saute feature it's really nice to have everything done in one pot. There isn't a timer function on the slow cooker feature, that was not a problem. It turned to a warming function and when I got home I turned it back on to cook a little longer. Last, but not least, I tried the risotto feature. Sorry, folks, I did not try one of the recipes. I used my own, the usual saute with butter, olive oil, onions and then the rice and then about a 1/2 cup wine. Once this all reduced I added four cups of stock and put the lid on and turned it to the risotto function. It came out perfect! So, after testing all three functions, I really find this machine to be a great tool. Its a keeper. This however, will be the only nonstick appliance/cooking product I own. I'm not a fan of non-stick cook ware. But, I think in order to have the saute feature you have it..perhaps.
Update - I cooked pork shoulder side by side in the Breville Risotto Plus on the slow cooker low setting and also in my Cuisinart Slow cooker (programmable, timer delay, ceramic insert - very nice machine only about a year old) also on the low setting. I was AMAZED after 7 hours the meat in the Breville was super tender, and the meat in the Cuisinart was still tough. I am now thoroughly convinced that the Breville is a superior machine!

Best cooker ever! (Well, only one I've owned, so take that with a grain of rice.)
Received one of these a few years back as a wedding present. Now I've given them as wedding presents. LOVE it! Cooks risotto perfectly, as well as rice, stews, and slow cooked meals. Can't say enough good things about it. Really, just stop looking and buy this cooker. Great for sautéing items as well.

If I could give 0 stars I would! This item stopped working after using it no more than 5 times! I would set it and it kept going into shut off mode as if the rice was done. The rice is majority raw and then a small portion is mushy. It was not edible. I tried leaving it alone to see if the machine would cook the rice and it didn't. Seems to be defective or a refurbish product!

To say that I love this appliance is an under statement. It makes wonderful risotto. Now, you still need to do some work; it is not instant. However, it saves time, and the risotto is great.

Just buy it!
I had a hard time believing a machine could make risotto, BUT IT DOES! This thing is even better than all the reviews suggest. It's an electric frying pan, crock pot, rice maker, risotto cooker, and vegetable steamer all in one! What else do you need?
