Cool is the Operative Word, will NOT be Cold
Okay unlike a lot of people who reviewed I am familiar with swamp coolers aka evaporative air coolers. We live in the desert part of CO (yes there is desert in CO, came as a shock to us too) and that is what most people use to cool homes. When we moved here darn near died, swamp coolers suck donkey. A friend gifted me a window AC and that is how we survived for three years. Well this summer we moved and the window design in new townhouse does not work with a window unit. This worried me a lot, add to that I'm going through menopause and a summer with triple digit temperatures is not going to be fun.. Saw this fan and thought this might be what was needed.
I bought two, one for the bedroom and one for the living room. The plan was to place strategically to assist the house swamp cooler in cooling better. I have been very pleased with the result. I am no longer miserable. There are days where I don't even use the cool feature; I just use the fan and living room is just fine. Have yet to need cool feature upstairs, came close last night but not yet.
I like the fact that the blades move left to right, granted not oscillating but still better than not moving, helps hit the entire room. I can feel the cool factor when the fan blows directly on me when it isn't blowing on me the room itself is still pleasant.
While we don't have one of these fans in my boys' room, with our using them their room is noticeably cooler than from when we used a window unit. They no longer mind spending time in their room.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it's not even a month old yet and the clear covering over the control panel is warping (see photos). Which is odd as we actually don't touch it, we use the remote to control. Another reason for the one-star deduction is the back of the remote popped off from the locked position, and of course not I cannot find it. Grrr.
I know it says indoor/outdoor. We tried it outside once, you absolutely have to be sitting directly in front of it to feel any coolness. We didn't purchase it for outdoor use but on those days when the little one wants to play in his splash pool, it does help me to have this blowing directly on me so I don't bake.
When I first turned on the downstairs fan, it did spray and mist water, which if I had been outside would have been great, not so much inside with carpet. I know in some of the reviews I read others mentioned this issue too. I think someone said to sort of wiggle the hose around and it should stop. That's what I did and it hasn't wet me since.
Like everyone else I load the drawer up with ice and then pour minimal amount of water (NOTE: you must have water in the drawer or alarm will sound and shut off. Unit will NOT work on cool setting if you only put ice. If you use just the fan setting, no water needed). so that I get really nice cool air blast.
I didn't see anyone mention this and if it was in the product description there is a nature mode. Still not quite sure what that is all about. Basically, it blows high for 10 seconds, then medium and then slow.
Noise level works for me. I'm old school and grew up with a box fan. I cannot sleep without the sound of a fan. Before buying these I had a fan running all night every night. If it was chilly I just turned so wouldn't blow on me. The noise soothes me to sleep. Downstairs I don't find it to be bothersome either. I work from home and do make phone calls, I can still hear whom I am speaking too and they don't notice the fan, even when on speakerphone.
If this goes back on sale I might buy a third for my kitchen, right now using a normal oscillating fan.
If you are elderly or have trouble bending over the fact that the water tray is on the bottom might give you issues. It is a bit awkward to drain and clean if you can't get on your knees or squat down.
Says it is also a humidifier, haven't used cool function long enough to notice if it will help with dry skin. Crossing fingers on that front as I've been ashy ever since we moved here no mater what moisturiser I use.

Strong cooling from a good unit...
I live in a big city in Southern Nevada, literally in the desert, where the temperature at the moment is reaching high triple digits. In other words, it's eff-ing hot here. I also live in a 2600 sqft two story house which, in the summer, uses a lot of power to cool down. My in-laws had a swamp cooler attached to their house that would cool it down to chilling temperatures but alas, due to HOA regulations, our house could not have one. So I got this to put in our kitchen. I had read the reviews but thought to give it a chance since it could still be used as a regular fan, which would still help cool things down in general. It was easy set up, really no set up at all, pretty much just plug it in and go. The water tank at the bottom holds quite a bit of water and at it's max and blowing on high it lasts around a week before having to fill up again. I took the advice of some other reviewers and put in ice from our ice machine, as well as re-freezable ice packs and the temperature difference has been amazing.
I currently keep the air conditioner set at 80 degrees, (keep in mind it's around 104 outside and only getting hotter) where as in previous months I would have to have the house at 68-70 degrees to get cool. This cooler has made a huge difference in how cool this house is. Even though it's located in the kitchen, I can feel that cool air at the top of the stairs. We have ceiling fans in all our rooms, luckily, which help too, but I don't think I'll be decreasing the air conditioner temperature in the foreseeable summer with this cooler around. I'm hoping to see a difference in our power bill too, but it's still too early to tell on that front. My husband also takes this into the garage during the heat to work on his bikes and it's made a difference in temperature there as well.
I'm not sure what environments other reviewers are using this cooler in, but this was made for but hot DRY climates, and in this climate it has been a game changer for me. I'll probably be purchasing another one as a gift to my sister who just moved here and hasn't acclimated to the heat (although I double anyone really acclimates to 100 degrees or higher).

This thing works fantastic. Actually had to turn it off because my bedroom got a little too chilly. The instructions are not clear which is why some people aren't getting great results. Fill the water container with ice first, then fill in the gaps with a little water. Don't use the ice pack. That cold icy water will provide hours of cold air.

Works well for a California Climate. Did not see anything in the instructions about how to dump water....easy just pull plug in the bottom.

Enormous waste of money
I bought this to replace a $20 box fan I had been using to cool my hot room.. I've had this for about three days now and my room is excruciatingly hot. The box fan worked better. Save your money do not purchase this!

Very happy with product but...
Okay first off I want to start by saying I am very happy with this product; it keeps my room nice and cool where the A/C lacks... but in all fairness to other customers and those who think this machine is more than just a fan. IT IS SIMPLY JUST A FAN! Yes you can put ice water in it and it's supposed to blow "cool" air but honestly it's just a really good/higher powered fan. Does none of that crap it says in the discription and will not cool down an overheated room but much for its just a fan that blows a little better than your average one. But it's perfect for me and has saved me from many overheated nights ***however the price is outrageous for what little this actually does. ***I have not had any leaking problems or anything like that mentioned in other reviews and I've been using it for a month now pretty much every night!

A total waste of my money
I received this unit today on June 17th.
I live in Arizona and our humidity is less than 10%
I just wasted $119.00 on a unit that does not put out ANY COOL AIR even with using the ice pack.
It was put in a 100 sq foot utility room with a temperature of 100 degrees.
After two hours of running on COOL, HIGH, the temperature was still 100 degrees.
The water reservoir was FULL and the ICE PACK was inside it.

Doesn't do what it says
No different than a regular fan. It does not cool you down unless you sit directly in front of it and the only difference between the cool function and regular fan is water spits out at you. I called the manufacture to see if I'm doing something wrong, and they told me it doesn't cool unless you're right in front of it. They called it a personal fan, and said i can return it back to BTA-MALL.
