What to get if your dog has thick poodle fur! <3
These are my first set of pet clippers and I got them to use on my poodle mix. He's 2 now and his fur grows way faster than it did last year. A month after getting shaved his fur was already three inches long and he was overheating in the summer heat! I finally decided to try my own hand at grooming him. These clippers made it pretty idiot proof which I appreciated exponentially! You can see from the pictures they did awesome on my little guy.
Pros: They worked very well and its basically impossible to nick your dog while the guard is on, even if you accidentally press it into loose skin. Before using it on him I tried it every which way on my arm to see if it'd cut me and it wouldn't. I love that it's cordless and the charge lasts a long time. I had two sessions on him and both were an hour long. The clippers never lost their charge or anything during this time. The clippers went through his long fur like butter most of the time, even in places that weren't brushed out as well. The kit also comes with round tip grooming scissors which I really appreciated.
Cons: If these are considered quiet clippers I don't want to hear loud ones! My dog didn't mind the noise (he's gone to the groomers many times) and it didn't hurt my ears or anything, but it did give me a slight ringing in my ears/ made things sound funny for a bit after I shut them off. Also these clippers DO get pretty hot. As I said, I was using them pretty much continuously for an hour at a time. Where I was holding the clippers I could feel it get really warm and if I took off the guard and touched the blades they were almost hot enough to actually burn your skin. HOWEVER, you can still use them if you are using a guard and it gets this hot as the heat, while it does transfer through some, doesn't get burning level hot on the plastic guard. At most the guard just got very, very warm. The guard also covers up completely the hottest area so you can continue to shave your pet without fear of burning them. Expect to get covered in sweat if you do this, however! This might be a problem if you have a dog that overheats easily, although my dog (mini poodle sized) didn't seem to care or be bothered at all. Also, at some points I had to turn off the clippers, take off the guard, and get all the hair out of it as it built up and slowed them down. I only needed to do this three or four times during, however, and it takes no time at all as most of the time I could just blow it off. The case is really, really cheap plastic and has no compartments, but its good to just keep all your grooming supplies together.
Packaging cons: The air bags that were inside the actual case weren't inflated so the contents inside (including the clippers) were subjected to the mailing process, especially since they were all just loose in the case. No problems from that (yet, at least) however. Also, the instruction manual that came inside had a mysterious brown stain on it. It almost looked like coffee, but it wasn't from any of mine! The stain was dry and I noticed it right after opening the case. It was really weird... I just tried to not touch that area. lol
Overall, the pros outweigh the cons to me. It worked wonderfully on my dog and they were pretty idiot proof as far as potentially hurting your dog (as long as you use the guards, of course). They were on sale for about the same price as one grooming session, so they've already paid for themself! I'm really glad I got these clippers instead of one of Wahl's cheaper pet clipper kits.

She hates being groomed -- baths are a losing battle and I can never comb or clip more than part of one side at a time since she
All my life my dogs have been short haired until the last one, Boo, who is sort of a Yeti, goat, and dog mix with 4 inch long hair. She hates being groomed -- baths are a losing battle and I can never comb or clip more than part of one side at a time since she refuses to budge and will happily nip/bite if I'm too insistent. I should use a muzzle but she acts as if it's the most excruciating torture device ever and has PETA on speed dial if I tried... so yes, I let my dog get away with murder.
After that fascinating back story I want to say I wish I'd bought these 2 years ago when I started clipping her myself. I have 2 pairs of Andis clippers that aren't cordless and cost much more and these clippers beat them without question. I purchased the Wahl thinking I could get some clipping in during our daily walks (when a lot of combing is done since she's standing in different positions and tolerates a brush here and there along the way) but am using them all the time. They cut right through hair the Andis clippers literally pass over or get stuck in. Maybe since they're cordless and allow a wider range of angles and easier motion they seem to clip better but the other issue is cost. I could have almost 3 pairs of these for the price of one of the Andis clippers.
If I need to buy another set of clippers I'll definitely buy these again.

1st Impression of Lithium Ion Pro home pet grooming kit by WAHL = GOOD!
1st review - 6/17/14: This will be my initial assesment. I have never cut a dogs hair before. My Lion Pro model 9766, came in a somewhat cheap carrying case with 4 guides, a comb, a small brush for cleaning cutter, and a small bottle of oil, a wall charger, and the cutter itself. I charged cutter overnight, but cutter was fully charged within a few hours. It has a convenient charge light on cutter. Light on = charging, light off = fully charged. So next day I oiled the blade, put on a guide, and went to town. IT CUT GREAT! Had to slow down going thru some matting but never had to stop. Then put on a smaller guide for face, paws, and crotch/butt area. I stopped frequently for a few minutes to let my dog de-stress, but never had to stop because the blade got too warm or the internal battery got too warm. Ran just a little warm, nothing like I read about in other reviews of other cutters. My dog is a 23 lb Long Hair/Broken Hair Jack Russel Terrier who was very patient during my clumsy effort at his first haircut by me. Total cutting time was about 30 min. But with frequent stopping raised this to about 50 min. The unit itself fit well into my averaged sized man's hand. Very little vibration. Noise level was low it seemed to me but have never tried another dog trimmer. From reading other reviews of other products; WAHL, OSTER, and ANDIS, mostly, some units can be very loud. It has a blade depth adjustment on left side but I have not used it and am not sure yet how to use it. Seems to function smoothly. The unit looks good being black with a silver inlay and a blue charge light on the silver. The Wahl logo in green on black also looks sharp. Like I said, it fits well in my hand and is not that heavy. Don't get me wrong, it has got weight to it. The motor seems to have good power and that means some weight, but did not feel super heavy. Guides are just plastic but seem sturdy enough and worked great! The blade itself, Wahl p/n: 1045, can be replaced for about $12 from BTA-MALL. Dirt cheap. The 1045 blade set is equivalent to a #30 blade. An all around blade that worked well for me. Other blade sizes are available for course and fine work. The whole unit/kit from BTA-MALL was only $49. Great price for a , so far, great product. I have given it 5 stars on the basis of my initial experience with this unit. I will add follow up comments as time goes by and I get to see how this cutter performs over the long haul. If there are any defects or issues with this unit they will have to show up over time because my initial outing with the Wahl 9766 Lithium Ion Pro Series Home Pet Clipper kit was a very good one and left me feeling happy with my purchase.

Sent a used product
This product is good... does the job. However, I thought I was purchasing a brand new clipper set. This package was previously opened (torn box) and taped closed. The small bottle of oil inside was only half full. The accessories had been placed inside a ziploc bag. What I received has been previously owned/used. I should not have been charged full price for used clippers!

This cordless trimmer surprised me with it's capabilities. I have two Standard Poodles that I groom fairly often. This clipper has worked well on them. I still have my powerful, pro-grade corded clipper that I use for some things, but this clipper could handle just about any job. The charge life was sufficient to do both dogs. I have only used it for routine maintenance so I don't know how it will hold up to the summer haircuts! I will update after we take their winter coats off!

Best clippers ever!
After getting tired of using a groomer for $100-$150 a pop I invested in this set for my cat. I have a highland snow leapord lynx and he has very soft thick hair that is long. He matts so bad! These clipper take the hair off no problem and cuts right through the matts. I'm so glad I went with this set. It's really hard to find a set for cats since everything is advertised for dogs but this one works well on my cat and dog.

Best buy in a long time. I
Gotta say, these have been the best buy in a long time. I've had them for a while now, and while they don't hold the charge as long as I'd like "between" clippings (2-4 months), I solved it by just throwing it on the charger an hour before clip time, and they're great.
Losing the cord has been a godsend! The dogs are calmer, because the cord isn't constantly slapping them, and it's sooooo easy to just turn them upside down to do bellies, and chins!
I have two 10 lb dogs, with dense fur (one is a poodle), and this cuts right through it all. I've found clipping before the wash works best, and I go with the grain of the hair, rather than against it. It have to make a few more passes, but there's a lot less hair pulling, and the dogs really prefer it.
I use the included brush to clean it several times on each dog, then oil it well when done with dog 1, before going on to dog 2. I haven't had any issues with clogging or heating up, except if I don't clean it fast enough.
I will say the comb attachments to make it leave longer hair are a pain, and they clog up and pull the dogs hair a lot. I stopped using them pretty quickly. Now I only use it with no combs, and I use my fingers, or a separate comb to pull up the hair and clip it for the spots I want left longer. It's more work, but well worth it not to constantly hurt the dogs, or clog up the clipper. They may work fine on less densely coated dogs, but Poodles and Maltese are very densely coated.
Overall, I love it, and if you keep it cleaned and oiled, it should work great on any kind of dog.

Another reliability issue with a Company who's products used to be good.
Should have read all the one and 2 star reviews. Certainly there's a reliability issue with this model of clippers. Purchased it back in 2015, used once, plugged it back in to recharge and the thing stopped charging in 2016. Called the company and although it was under warranty, I had to pay for the shipping to get a replacement. Turned out to be the unit itself and received a replacement.
Fast forward to early May 2017, the thing stopped charging again and this time I suspect that it's the charger that is out. I have a much lower amp charger which tends to work when plugged into this unit, but I need a replacement. Don't know that I want to spend money on shipping cost again and I thought that I could just purchase a replacement. Turned out that the replacement unit was mis-advertised and that didn't work and I just returned it.
I emailed the company requesting their input on what I should do next ... and no response! That was several days ago.
Very disappointing and now I'm looking for something more durable than this.

Great pet clippers for the DIY'er
this is our 2nd one of these Wahl Home Pet Lithium Ion Pro Series Pet clippers. the 1st one lasted 4 years, we replaced the blades and never could get them aligned to work right, so I replaced them finally. We have 2 long haired dogs, one is 40# and the other is over 100#. We live in central Florida, so they are clipped (sheared) every other month. They both have undercoat, which is hard to clip through, but these clippers do it like a hot knife through butter. the battery lasts at least 2 hours of constant clipping, because that's how long it takes to clip our big dog. I've read reviews where people claim the unit cuts out (starts to power off with use), watch where your fingers are - the power button is right in line with where your fingers are while clipping and I hit the button all the time. Our big dog is a long haired GSD and these are the best clippers I've ever used on her. They're quiet so they don't scare her. To keep the blades in great working order, we keep a can of compressed air to clean the hair and undercoat out of the blades and a can of WD-40 to oil them up after every use.
Update - just bought our 3rd pair as a gift so now we don't have to share, but these are the best clippers! Love them!

Wahl NOT SO Quiet Pet Clipper
Wahl Lithium Ion Pro Series Cordless Rechargeable Low Noise/Quiet Pet Clipper Hair Cutting Kit from Grooming Dog or Cat fur by The Brand Used By Professionals. #9766
I bought this for three reasons:
1. I trust the brand (my boyfriend buys this brand for his personal use)
2. This model number was recommended for trimming the curly/wavy coat of a poodle.
3. The title states that it is low noise/quiet
It will definitely trim down my poodle's coat. It's strong and the battery lasts long enough for me to finish a 20 lb poodle. I've used it twice and it hasn't died on me mid-groom. The attachable guide combs are perfect for choosing the right length. Purple seems to be our preferred length. By the way, don't put on the red guide comb and then shave against the growth of the fur. My poodle now has a spot that is REALLY short on his rump.
Having a quiet trimmer is important. Unfortunately, I turned it on and it did not sound that quiet to me. My dog did not like the noise of the clippers at all. I compared the noise of this Wahl pet grooming clippers with my boyfriend's Wahl hair clippers. My boyfriend's Wahl hair clippers were much quieter. I was unable to convince him to switch, so I'll use this one until I can find a quieter brand.
The kit comes with a pair of scissors and a plastic comb. The scissors are great, very sharp! I took them from the kit to trim my own hair. Works well.
