Does extremely well as a home blender, it's not a Vitamix but I don't expect it to be. It's perfect for my needs.
I, as many here, did a lot of research. There isn't much out there on this blender. What I ended up doing was comparing the parts of each blender from the viatmix to Ninja to blendtec etc. that made them work better than others. The Ninja (I bought one [not from amazon] but realized as I opened the package it had been hastily washed, repackaged and returned. Obviously the first purchaser was not fond of it. I chose to return it promptly because 1. it had these blades that looked cheap and so much molded plastic everywhere. 2. the spindles were too loose. Which made me think it wouldn't last long and if the lids didn't lock they'd come flying out at me. 3. 90% of all the parts are cheap plastic; research shows ALL plastics are estrogenic not just BPA. I have a 3-year-old daughter who loves smoothies, I am not even going to attempt using a machine like it. 4. The jars crack frequently, and the blades need replaced way to soon. $$$. The Ninja belongs in a class of it's own... Infomercial hype and should never be used to compare a blender's ability to do its job. I digress...
After comparing many reviews and weeding through the hype and learning how the commercial blenders work I decided to search for something that shared those qualities, all Metal Drive, Reverse action, lots of power for home use and a glass or stainless steel blending pitcher to reduce exposure to estrogenic plastics and reduce the cost of replacement parts. on Ebay I learned that the old trusty Vitamix's of the 90s had stainless steel pitchers and an average wattage of 850. If 850 watts was all a commercial business needed then that's all I need at home. I won't be making 100 smoothies a day like the Vitamix would be expected to do. The Oster 1200 pro is an average of 900 which is more than the older Viatmix 3600s. Logic would say this blender is all I would need. So far I have made 4 smoothies and some frozen banana strawberry ice cream. I've read complaints of people not being able to use it without added liquid... why would you not add liquid to your smoothie? It is important to lubricate the blades and not push any machine with too many frozen solids or tough stems.
I used the commercial Vitamix blenders for 5 years at Starbucks. Even those machines had to have a thawing period for frozen fruit, had to have a liquid in them along with the ice and other ingredients to make smoothies and Frappacinos. They are indeed workhorses, but i don't need a workhorse like that at home. This blender is enough for me. It performs like a Vitamix. It creates a vortex, is programmed, has a glass pitcher, doesn't runaway on the counter (no serious vibration) yes it's loud (get a sound a dampener like smoothie shops have if thats a problem for you) Someone mentioned rust on their blades... don't rinse it and let it sit. I run soap and water through the blender then take it all apart and rinse each piece then air dry. I had to do the same for the vitamix's. Both the pitcher and the to-go cup work great on the blender.
The only Con i have experienced is the lid on the to-go cup. It slides forward when you take a drink, a minor annoyance. Maybe add a locking mechanism on the lid? I have no serious complaints about this blender. If I encounter anything I will update my review.
All in all this is a great machine.

Powerful Blender For Its Size (Former Vitamix User) SEE UPDATE
This is a great blender. I bought mine from target. It has powered through tough greens like kale and Swiss chard, (with stems), as well as frozen fruit, nuts and seeds. It also makes awesome salsa and nut butters. I also own a Vitamix but wanted to get away from the plastic container. Although these 2 blenders are not in the same power/motor category, the Oster Pro is quite impressive in what it can do. I love the reversing blade action with the smoothie and salsa functions. It really helps to keep things moving without having to stop the blender to redistribute everything. What really sold me on this blender was when I made almond butter in it. After making it in both my Vitamix and food processor, both of which do the job but become very hot during the blending which I don't want in a plastic vessel. It can also be somewhat time consuming due to the thickness of the butter. This Oster took only 10 minutes from start to finish including the periodic stop to scrape down the pitcher. My almond butter was smooth, silky and spreadable without being heated up from the friction of the blades. I found using the medium blend setting to work perfectly for this. I was bummed to have to replace my Vitamix since the company doesn't appear to be in any hurry to offer an alternative container to the plastic, despite the many requests from their customers. I considered the Waring all stainless steel container that fits the Vitamix base, but it has its own issues: 1. It's expensive! $300. 2. It has PTFE (Teflon) chips that leach out from under the blade assembly and into your food. However, this Oster is meeting my needs and then some. I also love that replacement parts are easily accessible and inexpensive. The glass container is thick and durable and, unlike plastic, it cleans up beautifully and easily. No more accumulated odors and stains, despite all of my scrubbing, soaking and rinsing! And one minor thing....it fits under my cabinets fully assembled. Lastly, I too had the issue with it moving across the counter-top when on high speed. As it turned out, I was missing one of the little rubber feet on the bottom. I called the Oster company and they sent me a replacement that was delivered by mail 4 days later. Problem solved! Great customer service! Highly recommended!
JUNE-2016 UPDATE: Recently, my blender's motor clutch, (the square post on the top of the motor base that connects to the gear assembly), came loose and broke off. :( I called Oster customer service since my blender was only 4+ months old and still under warranty. The representative was very cordial, professional and handled my issue very quickly. He sent me a brand new blender and e-mailed a UPS label to send back the broken one. All of this was at no charge to me! I received my new blender just 4 days after the incident and it works great! I was so impressed by how Oster handled this issue that I wanted to update my review to let other customers know what great customer service they offer. This is something rarely seen these days, unfortunately. Hope this additional info is helpful. :)

leaving no remaining bits of the items unblended like our other blenders over the years
Countering a few of the lower rated reviews claiming the blender leaks: you have to place the outer protruding ends of the rubber washer exactly where the vertical lines on the black base indicate; one should align the washer's outer ridges and slide it in between the metal blade part the and black base part. You know you've done it right when the base/blade/washer screws into the pitcher such that the glass knob indicator on the pitcher aligns perfectly with one of the four black columns on the base (see picture attached).
Other than that, it blends ice-related items (frozen strawberries, ice cubes and bananas) perfectly, leaving no remaining bits of the items unblended like our other blenders over the years. And 1200 watts is plenty! Crushes everything smoothly. Yes, it is not "quiet": guess what? It's a blender. It's ok if it is somewhat loud for 30 seconds. No one in our family has said anything; it's not like a jet is going by. It's a great blender. The Smoothie mode works awesome as do some of the other pre-programmed settings.
It fits in perfectly in our kitchen so we can slide it back and forth underneath our Cabinets. Why some of the higher priced blender have chosen to put suction cups underneath the blender base is beyond me: we returned the Ninja without ever trying it out because it's so large and has these suction cups on it. This is our third blender in 10 years and we finally are completely happy.
And lastly, you save $100 - $200 if that means anything to people anymore...Thank you Oster for engineering a great product...

Powerful Machine at 1200 Watts
Makes no sense to spend megabucks on a Ninja or NutriBullet Rx. This machine will do the job for much less. There is a difference in this machine in that the base of the jar is larger than its predecessors. The other Osters will fit a canning jar on the base and also have many accessories that can be purchased here on BTA-MALL. I contacted Oster and asked them if they will be coming out with a food processor attachment for this. I would think that they will soon. I chose this model because of the power and also it is just a little shorter in height and fits well under my kitchen cabinets. Crushes ice perfectly, and makes great smoothies. I can find nothing negative about it. I expect to enjoy this machine for a very long time.

I have 2 favorite products purchased by amazon this year
I have 2 favorite products purchased by amazon this year. This product is one of them, it is amazing. By far the best blender I have ever owned. It crushes Ice for my smoothie and it has a pulse button for when I want to shred foods not mush them, probably because It has a wider blender mouth and larger blade surface contact
It does not leak, and clean up is easy- add a drop of soap to hot water and run through as a blender then rinse.
I was using a bullet until I purchased this item.
I use it 3 times a day for food for a family member who has not teeth and 2 times a day for smoothies.
I hesitated buying this because many people said it leaked, but not if put together properly ( see photos below). I am so glad I bought this.
If any of you who purchased this want to sell the smoothie cup, sell it on amazon and I will buy it. I could use another cup for I use mine several times a day.
In the 1st photo you see the gasket properly placed- on top of the blade- not under the blade.
In the 2nd photo you see the gasket pulled up for washing- not it is groved.
3rd photo you see the gasket put back in place, on the blade yet incorrectly posistioned. If you put the gasket in without pushing the groves under the lip of the plastic ring, it will leak)
4th photo- notice the groves are properly tucked under lip of plastic ring- in this way it does not leak.

motor still worked fine but we were negligent and gave the unit extremely ...
We finally wore out the metal spline on our old Oster, motor still worked fine but we were negligent and gave the unit extremely rough use for over 10 years. We saw this new 1200 with what looked like a truly updated connecting plate at the bottom of the glass jar and A MUCH LARGER OPENING AT THE BASE OF THE JAR!!!!! We debated whether we wanted to give up the small former mount, still available on most Oster units, for this new, improved model. We ordered the new 1200 900 watt unit AND IT IS A KEEPER FROM THE FIRST BATCH OF SALSA WE BLENDED TO THE FIRST SMOOTHIE WE BREWED!!!!!! This new design solves a whole variety of issues. The jar mounts firmly, the larger opening absolutely improves the instant blending of largeonio veggie pieces etc. The control panel is perfect, exactly the basic options needed for making everything. We've used it several times now loaded with frozen fruit, ice, carrots, peppers, onions etc. IT WORKS!!!! The larger opening pretty much stops the clogging that was inevitable with older models of all brands with the small, restricted bottom to the blending jar. Also, the negative reviews we saw alleging this machine to be roar like a jet and shake like a wet lion ARE JUST NOT TRUE OF THE UNIT WE RECEIVED!!!! Sitting flat on the counter it simply does not vibrate hardly at all and noise is quite reasonable. Less than our older two models in both respects. CAUTION: I'm an engineer and pay attention to some details others seem to ignore. Don't overload the jar, better to run two batches than to push the machine to the limits. Also, DON'T PUSH DOWN ON THE LID WITH ANY FORCE EXCEEDING A POUND OR SO. This causes some adverse pressure on the mount and you can hear the motor slow slightly if you bear down on the top. THIS WOUD CAUSE, HEAT TO QUICLY BUILD ON THE ARMATURE AND WOULD create some burning odors if this bind were forced at high speed. We placed our hand on the top of the lid, JUST IN CASE, and barely pressed down, this was completely adequate. One last thing, don't go from a standing stop TO FULL HIGH SPEED WITH ANY OF THESE BLENDERS. It is best to start the process with chop or grate, break any ice binding loose, then go to medium speed for a moment and THEN ADVANCE TO HIGH SPEED if that is indicated for the process your are pursuing. I hope this helps someone, we will post a follow up to this positive review in a couple of months or sooner if we run into some type of mechanical failure.

Boy am I ever pleased with this product. It chops, grinds you name it. I currently use it to make fruit and yogurt smoothies mixed with protein powder and about 6 ice cubs. It has settings just for smoothies. It does the trick better than any blender I've had. You'll love, I do.

Excellent machine, very happy with not spending over $500 for a top of the line model.
If you do not require a super smart blender but one that does a great job and is great value for money then this is the blender for you. Strong construction, this will be around for years.

Great Smoothies...Smooth blending!
Love this blender! The Smoothie feature is great because it stops on it's own so the ingredients shift, and then starts up again for even blending. I always had to stop my old blender, stick a handle down in it to move the ingredients around & then start it again.....or add more liquid, which made the smoothie too thin. Yes, the parts that screw on are large, as indicated in other reviews, but I have a piece of rubber mesh that I use to twist them off & on with....works just fine. Great price through BTA-MALL!
