This is great if you're looking to discover or verify your lineage. I had no idea where my family was from and this gave me some clear insight into that question. The test arrived quickly and was easy to complete and return in the prepaid shipping package provided, I got my results a few weeks after sending my prepaid package back to be analyzed. The Family Tree DNA website gives a clear breakdown and the exact percentages of what your DNA contains - this product will give you a great background on your DNA and where you're from.
The process was fairly easy and I would have to say the only hard part was waiting for the results - but like Momma always says, good things come to those who wait!
In short: Great product, super easy to follow instructions, clear breakdown of DNA results, all at a great price! I would highly recommend the Family Tree DNA test kit! And I think I’ll be picking up a few kits to gift to others!

Glad to know who my ancestors are... Interesting the difference between my daughters and myself...

Inaccurate results-please research other kits.
Please pay attention to the 5 star results. Most pay accolades to the simplicity of the process, but not the results. I give the kit one star for how easy it is to use, but zero for the results.
My wife bought this kit for me for my birthday as I was adopted on my fathers side of the family and we were interested in finding out what that looked like genetically. My mothers parents were off the boat Norwegians and we have quite a bit of documentation on their lineage back to the late 1,700's, but nothing from my biological father.
I got the results back and they said 7% of me is British Isles, which kind of makes sense. However, according to this test, I am 91% Western\Central European. First of all, If you look at the map that description covers an enormous area so doesn't tell me anything. Secondly, I know for a fact at least half of me comes from the Scandinavian countries and this worthless kit didn't even detect that.
I'm sure there are better kits available, so please don't waste your money on this one just because it's easy to use. If it doesn't provide you quality data, then ease of use doesn't matter.

I always read reviews before ordering. I was certain this was the best for the money. WRONG! Can't understand the positive feedback. Please beware. I was so excited to do the testing. What a ripoff. When you try to find the results online, you are inundated with ads. Upgrade for more $$$$. Only buy this kit if you like throwing money away.

Go with Ancestry.com instead!
I ordered ancestry.com test and found out frightening results so I ordered family tree to varify these results. The difference between family tree and ancestry is miles. Ancestry is so user friendly and detailed. Family tree is not user friendly at all. Ancestry has billions of users so easily connect to family (even if you didn't know they existed like me). Nothing on family tree. Don't bother! GO WITH ANCESTRY.COM!

It seemed very generalized and not specific on my European gens and showed no Native American which I know I have some. Shows hundreds of what they say are related as 2nd to 5th cousins. Everything else is optional and costs more.

Now that I've had time to analyze the cost vs. quality....
Disclaimer: I've completed 23&Me and Ancestry services prior to trying FTDNA. After taking all into consideration, FTDNA offers the absolute least for the dollar. Additionally, the DNA analysis (autosomal) that they do is very generic with the interpretations, almost seemingly lazy. The other two services picked up DNA that I know is in the family, while the FTDNA service seemingly ignored/ generalized the results or have the "most comprehensive " single tree branch DNA database imaginable. Additionally, FTDNA wants to charge for literally ANYTHING above and beyond the individual service purchased (e.g. "Family Finder"), which means, if you want to know what your maternal or paternal haplogroup is, you're paying $200+, even AFTER you've payed the $70-99 for your autosomal reading. Note: All that information comes as part of the package with other services. In conclusion and in my my humble opinion, I would gladly put my money on the either of the other DNA services again before ever placing another dime on FTDNA.
