A well-detailed airport fire truck
We finally get another rescue/fire truck after a hiatus of 14 years. For all of you adult fans the last one was 8454 Rescue Truck back in 2003. Out of all the new sets that we're recently released here in the USA, I chose to purchase 5 of the 7, and out of those 5 we're all 3 summer-release sets. I have to say I'm plenty impressed with this set. I was surprised at how many pieces it had and the low price tag, so price per piece average made for excellent value. It has the usual items you would expect for a fire/rescue truck for an airport. Front nozzle, and over head nozzle, only with this release, the nozzle is much more playable. It not only is flexible and turns, it also raises up with the cherry picker type extension above the truck itself. All of the side panels open upwards to reveal some goodies, mainly tools and the like you would find with most emergency type pumper trucks. The vehicle has a 4-cylinder engine and a rear differential to feed the power of the engine to each of the rear wheels. Also, 2 of the 3 axles are steering axles, so you get 4-wheel steering, it is really cool to see this feature as it minimizes the turning radius of the truck. You can also add set# 8293 to motorize the turning and raising of the boom, a nice feature absent from the eclectic predecessor, the 8454 Rescue Truck. A scale above the previous actual fire engine from 2006, which had limited features. The only thing that is missing in my mind are outriggers that would stabilize the truck when the boom is raised up for fighting a fire from atop. Also, the 8293 kit offers a LED light kit to illuminate two front top of the cab spotlights, a nice touch. Overall, the only con I see with this model is the lack of outrigger stabilizers, but otherwise, its a well detailed, realistic model and well worth the money. For children getting into medium level Technic, I think this model would be a great starting point, lots of fun to play with as well.

So Many Details my Son Was Beyond Happy... Though a Challening Build Worth the Time and Money
I will start off by saying my son is slightly young for this at 8 instead of the intended age group of 10 on this Lego Technic. With that fact in mind my husband and I helped him build this Lego, and it did take us a while due to time restrictions and back to school stuff. That being said the Lego was incredibly fun to put together and to see come to fruition. My son could hardly believe once it was done that it had moving parts and was able to be played with so easily. He always plays with his built Legos, but this is on a different level due to the steering and all the details. The details are what my son loves about Legos. He loves all the opening compartments, tools, and figures that are usually included in a Lego. There is no mini figure with this Lego, but all the pieces you get make up for that in spades. He loves the opening compartments and inside of the steering compartment. You could of course use mini figures with this once built. There was so much Lego thought out with this rescue vehicle and for the price it is worth every penny. I would have expected this to cost twice as much as I paid 400$ once for a Death Star which has far less details and moving parts in my opinion. This is a challenging build so if your child is young you will need to assist. This set does not include the motor set which has to be bought separately, the only caveat, but my son does not even know about that so I may buy that later. One cool aspect is you can change your build from the airport rescue vehicle and rebuild this as a fire rescue or the other way around. My son built the airport vehicle and does not seem to want to rebuild it at this point, but the option is there. This has 1094 parts, and the instructions are included and easy to follow for the most part. I definitely recommend this to the skilled Lego builders out there.

A Terrific Family Project
So know that this LEGO Technic Airport Rescue Vehicle set is a PROJECT! And that's half the fun of it! Sure a child/teen with LEGO experience will be able to put together this 1000+ piece set alone (and may prefer to), but it can also become a family project with parents and siblings working together to building this amazing vehicle!
A perfect "rainy weekend" activity that comes with pride of accomplishment AND hours of fun playing with the finished product. And then of course, you can take it all apart and reassemble it into another rescue vehicle! Love LEGO.

Great item! LEGO lovers dream!
Awesome new release!! LEGO really outdid itself with this new U.S.A. release. Over 1,000 parts for this unit so it is going to take some time to build. But once you're done it's wonderful to behold. If you want an online building manual to help you see and create this monster piece by piece large and in living color, one is available if you do an online search for: Lego downloads building instructions 6213416 pdf. Be warned, however, the instruction manual is some 200 pages, which shows how complex and detailed this item is.

What new is there to say about a Lego building set? It's simply great, like the majority of Lego products. This Rescue Vehicle is a complex, challenging (expensive) project. And if you like to spend time putting puzzles together, this one is another winner.
