5 Stars By Jim on 2017-10-09 Great backpacking tent Great backpacking tent! Definitely outdid my expectations.
I bought a Kelty 2 person tent years back, and it was tiny. This Hyke and Byke Zion 2P tent is incredibly spacious, yet still very lightweight, which is crucial when taking in your pack for any distance. The tent is made from rip stop nylon, which is tear- and abrasion-resistant, so I know this tent will be ultra-durable! I paid less and got much greater value on this tent!
It was also incredibly easy and intuitive to set up, with all the poles connecting as one, and a simple rain fly, which can be set up over the tent, or stand-alone, which means that if you are trying to go super lightweight, you can even leave your tent at home and camp under the rainfly if you wish.
So many great features such as two doors, two vestibules, great pockets inside where I can store my stuff, as well as a free gear loft, which isn’t common. Also included was a free footprint and stake presser. This comes in handy for putting stakes in the ground, and again, it’s lightweight, so you don’t need to bring any other tool along. Love the guy lines that it comes with, which are reflective, so I won’t trip over them at night!
Thanks to Hyke and Bike for putting out great products. I’ve loved their sleeping bags, and their tents haven’t disappointed either.
5 Stars By Carl on 2017-09-05 Hyke and Byke Zion Backpacking Tent I received the new Zion 2p tent this afternoon and set it up in the backyard. I discovered Hyke and Byke when I was shopping for sleeping bags to take to Philmont Scout Ranch. I bought a couple of 15 degree bags and was very impressed with them. They were nice backpacking bags worked out great on our Philmont Trek. Lightweight, warm and durable.
So, I jumped on ordering this new tent from Hyke and Byke. I am not the most knowledgeable tent reviewer in the world, but I have spent plenty of nights year round camping as Scoutmaster for my sons troop. At Philmont we used the MSR tents available to scouts. As you might expect, compared to the MSR, this tent material felt less substantial although I would guess about the same weight.
During setup I liked the pole and how easy it was to put up. The pole is basically one unit that snaps together at angles and helped by the elastic running through the middle of the pole. The poles connect to the tent and the ground cloth by grommets and stay put because of ridges on the end. Then the tent body clips onto the pole making it very easy to put up and take down quickly. Compared to my old Kelty 2p this tent has much more vertical walls and tons of room, especially headroom, for a 2p tent. I am 6'2" and there was lots of space and shoulder room to sit up in the tent. There wasn't much extra room for me end to end, but I didn't feel cramped either. I felt like the tent had excellent ventilation. There were also storage pockets in the corner, and one that hangs from the top.
The rain fly fit nicely on top. I expected to find grommets where it connected to the cross bar, but I didn't find any. The rain fly clips onto either the tent base, or the ground cloth if tenting with just the fly. Nice feature. It looks like the only way to connect the fly to the pole is by tying off the straps, which seems like that would be awkward. It comes with stakes and reflective guy lines to add to the fly, but I didn't use those for this setup.
The tent went up fast and dropped fast. I was worried about getting it back in the bag that it came with, and I had to work on that for about twenty minutes and four attempts before it went back in. I even ripped the bag a little, which was a bit disappointing. The bag should be bigger, or I should be better at rolling up a tent. Either way, getting it back in the bag might slow you down.
Overall I think this is an excellent tent and value and a nice upgrade for me over my old Kelty. I will be taking this out on a campout in a couple of weeks and may be able to give an update then.
5 Stars By Duane Smith on 2018-03-20 Easy one person setup, well designed tent. This tent is great. When I first unpackaged it, I was a little surprised to not see any instructions, but none are needed. The one piece pole is very intuitive and with clips on the tent instead of loops, it allows quick and easy one person setup. I almost had to try and not laugh at the rest of our Boy Scout Troop struggling with their tents (next time maybe they will listen when we advise them to pair up and set up scout's one tent, then the other). With doors on two sides and vestibules under the tarp I was able to put my backpack outside the actual tent, which makes much more usable interior space. The tent w/ rain fly was not too difficult to roll and stow, and I didn't have to muscle it into it's bag, With a little more tightness in the roll, I could probably get the floorpan and stakes into the bag as well. The rain fly can clip to the tent, or the floorpan. Really a well designed, well thought out tent.
5 Stars By Heather B. on 2018-06-11 Best tent I've owned yet. This tent was amazing. It is easy to set up and take down and I like that everything easily fits back into the bag. It was much roomier on the inside then it looked. The middle hammock thing (i have no idea what they are called and no desire to seem smarter by figuring it out either) where you can set some items like phones and keys was great. The best part was that it was absolutely 100% waterproof. We camped in a doozy of a storm with blowing rain and lots of rain to wake up pleasently surprised that not a single drop was inside. Having two doors, one on each side was great to. I highlt recommend this tent. There isn't one thing I could say i disliked about it and thats rare for me.
5 Stars By John Vos on 2017-10-15 I love the tent I love the tent! Got to try it out a few weeks ago, easy setup, seems durable, really like the double vestibule. It replaced an Apex 2 from Kelty. My only complaint would be the rain fly has a loose fit, no matter how the guy lines are set up. Might prove troublesome in windy conditions. Would also prefer velcro to tying the fly to the frame.
Otherwise very nice value!
Excited to see your company grow
5 Stars By BTA-MALL Customer on 2017-10-25 Awesome product Great quality, easy set up, plenty of room for 2 and light enough for backpacking. Fits just fine in a 45L backpack with room for sleeping bag and pad.
5 Stars By Jennifer L Ortiz on 2017-10-29 Great tent and reasonably priced Bought this tent for my son who is a Boy Scout. I wanted a decent backpacking tent that wasn't overly expensive. Wanted a two person so my husband who is an ASM could share the tent when they go on scout outings together.
This is an awesome tent. Very roomy inside for two people and their gear. It also is super easy to set up for my son on his own and high quality material. Love all the little pockets for keeping flashlights, etc also. The waterproof rain cover is great too.
5 Stars By Paige on 2018-07-05 Everything you need! I got this tent last week and have already taken it on one adventure with a second coming up this weekend. I LOVE the design of this tent and so far it seems like it's very well made. It's an easy setup/tear down and have everything I want and need in a tent. The two-door entry with vestibules on each side are fantastic, even if you're using it on your own and don't need to crawl over anyone else to get outside. The vents on each side are also super handy and helpful when you need a little extra breeze. The detachable gear loft PLUS gear pockets on each side corner give me plenty of room to store books, head lamps, phones, etc. I can't wait to keep using this.
5 Stars By Jimmy C on 2018-07-26 Fast Pitch, Roomy, Holds-Up, Looking Towards Years of Use Great tent. Easy setup as advertised (without guide or prior experience, I pitch the tent first in my living room under 15 minutes). Note: Don't be afraid to secure and then bend the poles!
More than enough room for myself and one other on a hiking trip. We could have squeezed in a third, so spacious is the tent.
The rain cover and footprint served very well on the trip as it survived a thunderstorm.
After getting the tent cleaned up, I hope to take it out on many more adventures. (That, and the feeling of being able to live anywhere is very comforting.)
5 Stars By Devamitta on 2018-07-25 the tent was fairly easy to figure out Though it came with no instructions and the email that had them and a document on tent care came after my camping trip, the tent was fairly easy to figure out. It is a great tent that served my purposes, and I am glad I bought it. Quality seems high, but I am no expert on camping gear.It rained heavily the last day of trip and inside of tent remained completely dry since the design keeps the rainfly separated from the tent itself by a good margin. The only thing I don't know is what is the round, solid metal wring, about two inches in circumference for. It was identified as a part in the instructions I downloaded from the Hyke and Byke email I got when I returned from my trip. It may have something to do with the top of the RidgePole that keeps the rain fly away from the tent, possibly to be on the placed on top of the ridge pole itself to keep the pole from poking through the tent over time. Anyone else know?
